Hi Msx friends ,
I am new to this forum and I am looking for a game that I run into 2 years ago. But for now I have forgotten name and developer. The only things a know about this game are details of the site and screenshots of the game.
Details about site/developer: It had an russian look, the russian flag was on it and he made the best games for msx then. I think it was in the same time as Pumpkin adventure 3. Maybe it was an russian developer but I am not sure.
Game details: it was an sort of athletic game with looked like 88' games of konami. It had some 3d graphics in it. and it was totally different from what we knew. It is also not possible to play on an emulator because of some kind of protection.
I hope there is someone out there that has any clue of what game I mean. If someone can give me an souce of where to find it and what the name is I am very happy.
Thanx

Maybe it's Matra's Moscow 2024 but that one is quite newer as Pumpkin Adventure III.
But the limit of 2 years and the sites does match and the type of game do match.

Indeed this was the game I was looking for and the guy who produces nice msx games. Now I have another quetion about matra and his games.
Are those games playable with an emulator ? Because I have no msx any more. And were can I buy/get these games ? I don't want any internet pay method. Is there an msx event where the yare sold ?
Thanx for the info. It looks promising.

Here's a review, with ordering information:

I guess it runs in all good emulators, since the game can't konw if it is running in an emulator.. Someone please try it in openMSX, I haven't got the game, so I can't test... But since they claim that it doesn't run on any emulator, I guess it will not run on many, maybe only openMSX and/or NLMSX. |

According to the article on aamsx, it uses overscan (probably like in ark a noah), so it won't run in NLMSX (yet ). |

What is so special on overscan in the games of Matra ? I guess overscan is build with the possibilities of the z80 processor and if the msx emulators are well programmed than z80 emulation should be fine and every functionality build on that processor should be emulated also.
But has someone experience with this game ? Otherwise I have to buy an old msx2.

Are there more msx games between 1994 and 2003 ? I am just curious for good games in that time area ?
and is there material for how to build msx games nowadays. Is all msx software build with assembly code ?
Anyone who has answers please respond. Maybe I'll try to make some stuff in teh near future . |

Actually overscan allows the display of graphics in the higher and lower border of the screen. It also increases the vertical display resolution. It's not Z80 dependant since it's done using undocumented VDP tricks (it's actually a VDP bug) when changing quickly the value of VDP register 9 at a precise moment during screen refresh. |

Just a dirty trick to make graphics look nicer. As a programmer you are always looking at the edges of the system you are working on. There is nothing wrong with that. That makes your games more special than others.
But is there documentation for this sort of tricks ? I think not because that would ruin the secret of matra's software.
