Nowadays it seems a common feature for wannabe 'musicians' wanting to be commercially famous to pull up a list of well-selling tunes blasted from the 60's, 70's or 80's to boost their fame up a bit. Recently I've heard yet another cover of 'Light my Fire' originally performed by The Doors. It's about the fourth or the fifth cover already. I think this cover of cover thing for commercial purposes gets kinda lame lately, as you hear most of the same songs over and over again.

What do you think of all this?

Yeah well....It's the fact music is being placed in the market as 'mass product' that irritates me. Not necessarily the covers.....

I think the covers are a big part of music being placed as a 'mass product'. Does any of you remember the Synthesizer Greatest collection? I think the person who made these albums can be called the king of covers. None of the tracks are done by the original artist.

No, BiFi. You can't be serious about this......REALLY?!!? No, I don't believe it. Back then, I bought volume 1 and 2.....And never realised this. All the original artists were mentioned on the back of the cd....

Hmmmmm, I'm going to have lunch now, at home I'm going to check it immediately and compare the 'Autobahn' from Kraftwerk on Synthesizer Greatest and the original 'Autobahn' from Kraftwerk which I also own....

I'll keep you informed, I simply can't believe this......

The music industry is falling down anyways, as well as the movie industries. Covers do so well because the 'new' youth doesn't know it and it sounds very good (because it's been proven offcourse) , so they will buy it. 'Older' people will buy some too because they recognize the song, some will also walk away in disgust as their original song has been sampled, resampled and came out like shit compared to their nostalgic thoughts of the song If u think there are a lot of covers, this implies u are getting older There's always been lots of covers!

But there's hope...eventually who would want to buy nostalgic songs for enormous amounts of euros from big ass companies like sony or bmg? not me, I rather spend my euro's on a good sounding Ambient CD from the net for 10 euros by 'some' guy/girl which sounds good from the soundclip

It's a golden age for innovative music-writers! NOW!

Latok, the original composer/performer are on the jewel case, but all tracks on these are not performed by them. If you can convince us otherwise, feel free to do so.

Snout, was Arcade covers only? I didn't know that... I thought there were at least SOME of the albums they released had new music...

Dinomight... I'm probably old already (I was conceived somewhere in january 1972, it's not hard to do the math). At least according to some people I'm old already because they didn't get to my age yet... but I'm sure they will get there one day...

I really don't mind rereleases of those older songs, as long as they're performed by the original people, either live or from a recording...

Musicians, be creative again and make many new music. Not that they will ever listen.
