Indeed, I desperately hope someone mixed up Lazy Jones with another game ^^; |

| well, recording is easy.. get some recorder software, such as soundforge, run an emu such as nlmsx with imagine, or run kss, press record in soundforge, and play all tunes. Afterwards, cut all tunes seperate, normalise them, fade the edges a little bit to avoid a DC tick, and save the tunes seperately. With a SB-Live you can do this easily..(set the mixer input to 'what you hear') dunno about other cards.. tho.
|
Eh, first thinx first wolfman:
- fix DC BIAS
- Compress the whole track (very importand or the normalizing will do no good)
- ..THEN Normalize, or better maximize it. (you can do both...)
- cut edges / insert fades
anyway... I could do some more recordings but do not own al the freakin' games. to bad. hahahaaaaa. Ahum

details my dear Watson
I'm not such a fan of DC adjust, I prefer a high-pass filter instead, since a DC offset is essentially a 0hz sine at phase 90 or 270
The recordings I do/did for the list, are all mastered! (tiny bit of reverb, EQ, 4band compressor, 4band enhancer, stereo imager and a look-ahead limiter)
and ok: replace my "fade the edges to avoid a dc tick" with "fade the edges because you have to fade the edges always"

yeah, just talking shop here
(DC adjust might be essential before any editing like parametrics and compressing)
No need for EQ however since all tunes are CHIP tunes which do not vary in overall bandwith usage (although it might be different during recording.. depends on equipment....hmm, thaz why I prefer direct lines. Atleast no eq at the board or any 'warm' pre-amp... just plain and clean signals here)
ah, whatever I won't even go into details about dynamics (cmp, lim etc) be'coz: who gives a crap. It's just us two wiseguys trying to outwit one and other
There is essential one fave dynamic edit I ALWAYS use: a maximizer (boosting tracks to equal RMS)
Uh, I might wanna polish my fave tunes just to push them higher in rank. haha.
neh, no cheating here.
By the way, ever used MP+ datastream? Superb quality. But since no one ever heard of it (let alone use/support it) I still make my mp3 tracks with variable bitlength.
Well, we'd better start another thread here and discuss the hell out of what we (dis)like.. a matter of taste. so no space bothered on that nonsense. just us pigheaded ex fuzzers eh!
(by the way, how serious are you, wolf (with the golden.. u know), about NOT making mb1.44 tunes anymore?? for fubsy it's essential... but thinx have to be coded first, I let ya know)
signing off, ro

Seconded.
However, didn't the lazy jones tune make it into the UK charts last year? Part of it was used in a song. Can't remember which one, will have to look that one up. |

the golden ... yeah? yeah? yeah? come on, you can
FM pac is nice for oldskool msx games.. I don't find it interesting anymore since [1] it's getting boring, esp. in MB, and [2] at has to compete with opl4 games, and [3] opl4 is way cooler
tho, if a userfriendly non-coders-interface microcabin-compatible tracker shows up some day for fmpac+psg, I might give it a try.
My latest investment for my msx was a scart2scart cable of 84 cents... that was last week! |

Ofcourse Microcabin used MML, not a tracker.
Still, the Microcabin sound format is currently being reverse engineered by Roberto Vargas. Stop by IRC channel #msxdev on Rizon some time for current status and more info. |

Of course, I know. If I want to make such a fuzz about it, I should have done it myself, but at the moment, MSX RADIO is playing the WRONG version of the Feud song This is the boring introtune without the melodyline.....The ingame music (which I nominated) has a thrilling melody! I meant that tune |

Hm, and now I'm hearing a Maze Of Galious tune while Radio365player says it's Venom Strikes Back from Gremlin |

Darn, that cool ZOO-tune wasn't nominated, I think. Too bad |
