Actually, I was just wondering how many active OPL4-composers are still around.

Well, uhm... how's about making a musicdisk? All we need is the music and some graphics. (As in: I've already made a really basic BASIC replayer which works quite nicely)
Or maybe someone would be willing to whipup some automated website? I'm not such an FTP fan...

Sounds like a great idea... A website containing the music would be cool too, but then you cannot listen to the songs immediately. But maybe then we can convert the tunes to mp3 format also?

I think it's a very good idea of a music disk, or an archive on the Internet (or both). Being an OPL4 composer myself, I always find it very nice to hear music from other OPL4 artists, like to hear what nice tricks someone's made up to reach certain fx. And then learn from each other, try to make my own songs sound better than before.
I've put my own songs already on Internet, both mwm and mp3 and it always pleases me to see how many people visit my site, so I guess people do like to hear the OPL4 sound.

Why not use STEREO (MSX-AUDIO/-MUSIC) ?!
Check out: www.mp3.com/pieturp http://www.mp3.com/pieturp
These songs are about 1.5 years old, but still fresh.
I've made many more -and much better- songs during the past 2 years. I just can't find the time to convert them to MP3... (lazy me!)
But talking about OPL4... Has anybody got some experience with MoonBlaster FM for OPL4?
I want to know if it's cool enough to make music with. (I can't seem to get excited only by samples... sorry... I like electropunk I think!)
Well that's enough for about now!

I still sometimes use the OPL4 when I make music. But most of the time I use several ways to compose music. I do it with MadTracker on the PC, and make some tracks with the OPL4, which I sample on the PC, and use in other songs.
Anyway. you can check some music out on :
http://darkside.student.utwente.nl/folkmix
go to Download , and then check out the Own Productions.
I wonder if you can spot the OPL4 sounds in the music...

Back then, during muzax3, I spent days and days finding ways to optimize the pac/musmod sound. That was fun, back then. Once meridian for opl4 is out, we can work with decent software again. From that moment on I'll again try to boldly go where no-one has gone before.. finding new tricks.
Current experiments resulted in a realistic trombone ensemble, in stereo, 16bit, 44khz... and a total of 16kb in size
Next experiment will be realistic strings..! |

as usual, Wolf is one of the composers finding new tricks to create a soundscape that's never heard on MSX before. As a composer, I'd like to note that only a few composers are gifted enough to do this. Respect!!

Btw, as wolf, I would love to make some OPL4 tunes as soon as the new Meridian has arrived!

I find it an interesting idea to explore to limits again. The last time I did something for opl4 was *before* my study, that xmas tune was the first opl4 tune I did *after* my study. A day or what ago I listened to muzax 2 again (in nlmsx), ...ouch!! did I create that ? ) Personally I feel that my music-thinking has grown up heavily, compared to those old days. |

that's our different approach
the music I used to make was very 'mathematical'
nowadays I create music out of emotion
I find it interesting to see if I can make that kind of music on a computer as well. It's quite hard but I think Meridian provides about everyting that's needed for a good attempt |
