I dont think that roms are copied in rams like in the PC's
I think hard/soft reboot is used for MSX logo + Ram test
only.

msd IS talking about the RAM test. And talking about loading cracked ROMs into RAM.
If on a MSX2 you reset the MSX with a ROM image loaded in RAM, it will see it as a real ROM cartridge.
On a MSX2+ because of the RAM counting, the first byte of the image will be destroyed and therefor not boot.

Manuel:
Did you ever get a response to your original question?
I have an MSX2+ of the type you're interested in, and I can run that program of yours if it would help.

It seems there are MSX2+ machines that do have a mapper and ones that don't. It would be very nice to know which machines do and don't have a mapper. Manuel did get some response already but as we don't know which MSX2+ machine you have it might be useful to test it. I do think Manuel should respond to it himself as I don't know if he changed the method of testing from a few simpel steps in Basic to MSXMEM to map the whole slot structure as well.

| I rember that I have seen something about the msx2+ standaard in a magazine.. was it mcm?.. Don't remember, but do rembemer that a DD diskdrive and the vdp ports are also standardised.
|
Look at this:
http://www.oldbits.de/collection/sanyo_wavy35.jpg
It prooves that at least the presence of (a) floppy-drive(s) was (presumably?) NOT standardised...
As if that many MSX2+ titles appeared on cartridge...
This Sanyo PHC-35J is a machine with the MSX2+ logo but without a diskdrive... Are there any documents existing today stating the exact minimum specifications that MSX2+ and higher should have?
For instance, was MSXturboR a real, pre-defined open standard like the other MSX variants or was it a sole development of Panasonic/Matshushita, taken over by ASCII to act as as a new standard? Which would explain not naming it MSX3...
[edit] typo's removed and question added

The R800 chip being designed by ASCII itself, I think this theory can be thrown in the garbage bin

Yes, I'm still interested and running with MSXMEM might be useful too! |
