again, argon. you should really read the tuts on genic/sunrise mags. they will explain all of this. including color bit structure in different screens. Vram addresses, sprite buffers etc. etc. etc.
once you get the hange of it, you'll be able to mix it all together in your programs.

Could you supply and EXACT link to the correct file folder on funet ?
I tried looking for those files yesterday, but all I found were Sunrise Magazine demodisks.
Or is that what I'm supposed to find ? (I was looking for text-manuals)

Apart from the first issue, the Sunrise magazines aren't PD. If they would have been pd, we would have put them online in our Downloads already. They indeed contain very important stuff about programming etc.
You should try M.I.L.C. That's also a very interesting database for all your questions....
And the map of course.... |

Unfortunately, most of the M.I.L.C. resources are Dutch, but if you don't mind that, you might check the online version out at http://www.mccm.aktu.nl/millennium/milc/index.htm
The MAP contains English only information to be helpful as possible to the majority (if not everybody) in the MSX community. |

Almost all sunrise disks are Public Domain, If I refer to the MCCM Millenium disk 2 :
Sunrise Magazine 1 to 15 (btw, the dsk image of Magazine 2 is corrupted and useless)
Sunrise Magazine 16a, 16 b, 17a, 17b, 18b
Sunrise Picturedisk 1 to 15
Sunrise Special 1 to 7
So, the only not Public Domain disks are Sunrise Magazine 18a (a ROM product), 19a and 19b (MGF products) ...

Latok as well as Ro are right
Genic is PD
All Sunrise doesnot !
SRM/SRS/SRP are suited on MCCM-CROM first one under the copyrighted sector !
AS far the diskimages concerned
SRM 2 I have the correct disk, but making diskimage fails even as SRM3

I don't understand: on disk 2 of MCCM Millenium, you find almost the Sunrise magazines and they are Public Domain - example of a link with the superb interface :
d:SoftwarepdsunriseMGZN-03.DI2
On the disk 1 of MCCM Millenium, you find in the copyrighted section the MSX Sunrise games (not the magazines !)

Sunrise, you could solve this issue by stating right here and now that the Sunrise Magazines are indeed Public Domain. You would make a lot of people very happy. They're asking for it
By the way, Sunrise Picturedisks have always been Public Domain. I'm surprised you now state that it's copyrighted material. I've contributed to the Sunrise Picturedisk sometimes and I perfectly know the legal status of that product.
Anyway, I'm going to contact Frank Druijff about this. I'm very curious on what grounds MCCM put things in certain directories. As you know, I was part of the MCCM crew from 1994 until the end in 1997. Frank has this portfolio in which he has all the written permissions for the Millennium cds. I do also know some MSX manufacturers gave their permission ONLY for the Millennium cds, for example Konami did it this way.
The Millennium cds give us a huge Public Domain database. It NEEDS to be put in our Downloads database. So many people are interested in this public stuff.
I will keep you all updated. |

To all of you:
Thank you for the many docs and links I received so far, they will be very helpful
I received a doc on saving BMP files at 4 bpp, which is what I was looking for
I would like to make the level editor in VB or C++, and needed the file format for storing them for screens 5

Indeed, the SRM3 disk image on the MCCM Millenium disk 2 doesn't work for a part, ... but I've found somewhere on Internet (I don't remember where) a perfect dsk image of this magazine, with the File-Hunter demo as intro (works like a charm in openMSX !)
So, only SRM2 is a real problem, probably because of a too strange copy-protection (same problem with Quasar disk 2 of MSX-GOUDA). |
