| What do we really want?

| A problem in the programmers minds, yeah
I'm a programmer myself, so I know how it goes.
Ofcourse I love people emailing me or writing in forums how they love my programs, but I know my programs are cool, I wrote them largely for myself, and I'm happy with it.
If I then get emails saying how cool other people think my stuff is, that's only better!
|
I think I haven't said anythig like that... I just started the topic asking why people don't react to the things that really keep the system alive and they do with other things (less important for the preservation of the system, at least for me).
When somebody releases a game, I feel really happy...it's GREAT!! I'm not telling you must e-mail the creator and tell him how cool he is.... I just say that I feel sad when there's so little public reaction (and I feel it for a game made by anyone, not only by me).
How many new games do we have a year... one or two?? ... we act just like if we had a new game every week.

My problem is that I can't see any difference between these two options:
People not saying anything == your game is good
People not saying anything == people is not interested in your game
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You're right, you can't see the difference directly, but is that really necessary?

I'm sure it is.

| Anyway, you can see the popularity of your product by the number of times it's been downloaded. I know there are several hundreds of people using GEM, but I recieved less than 5 emails about it.
|
The amount of downloads says nothing about if people like the stuff or not ... anyway, people download everything that is free...

Well they do with some other thinks like arranged MP3's, PC remakes and so on...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do they? You mean here on MRC? Coz here on MRC there are a lot of nostalgists, people that don't care for the actual MSX platform, just about the old games.

I mean everywhere... forums, mailing lists, ...

| Another thing, a wallpaper or MP3 can be downloaded and viewed instantly. A MSX game must be either loaded in an emulator or put on disk and used on a real MSX, either possibilities are not instant. So people look at the product later, and then forget they could reply on the newspost.

Maybe you're right on this...

| Oh, btw... Last MSX Fair in Oss (January 2003), MSX NBNO (I think) showed your Bubble Rain.
Everybody said "Cool! Puzzle bobble for MSX! It looks really good! It plays well!" and the MSX that showed it got much attention the whole day. Are you more happy now?

Of course I am... wouldn't you? | | GuyveR800 msx guru Berichten: 3048 | Geplaatst: 10 September 2003, 14:38   | Quote:
| I'd say: DirectX makes a PC into a 'standard'.
|
You're stuck with microsoft then. That's not a standard!!!
If MSX was only produced by one company it wouldn't be a standard either. | | GuyveR800 msx guru Berichten: 3048 | Geplaatst: 10 September 2003, 14:41   | Quote:

Definitely
What I'm saying is, reacting on a fair is also 'public', and usually the creators are at the booth, so they see the reaction. In the case of a foreign game, the creator isn't there and so he never knows about all the cool (and maybe less cool) reactions and comments.
But that doesn't mean they are not there! | | Imanok msx addict Berichten: 283 | Geplaatst: 10 September 2003, 16:06   | Quote:
