And where's the border then ?

Do you agree on an msx demo, coded in chaos assembler ? (pc)

Did you, years ago, agree on gfx ripped from the Amiga?

Do you agree on opl4 music, made out of samples, prepared on pc ?

Do you agree on a little scripting engine (to do some more complex multi-part demos, such as ANMA's source of power), created in notepad ?

I really don't see the point in avoiding another computer to create something FOR the msx..

I was aiming at original material.. so, you own gfx, your own tune, your own font/txt etc. I was just aiming at an app to compile all of it. This way, non-coders can do such demos too.

Well, the problem is that creating such simple demo's is a first step to becoming a 'serious developer'. If you have a tool to create such a demo with a few clicks, a lot of educational value is lost.

However, I happen to know Grauw was making plans of a 'scriptable demo engine' . With this you still need knowledge, you are still programming in assembly (on an MSX or a cross-development compiler on PC) but a lot of tough things are a lot easier (or more understandable).

Well we currently have one team:

Latok - Coding & ideas
Snout - Music (I'm going to use Musica! PSG+SCC+FMPAC!!) and (minor) coding
Zett - GFX (The font looks awesome, dude!)

Like I tried to state in my initial post... see this as a challenge, I'd like to see other people form a small group and do a logo&scroll demo as well... So... don't be shy and give it a try!

(Do I hear a Maggoo+Argon team coming up? )

This is too easy... a logo & scroll demo? If I can get some people to do gfx and music, the coding'll be as easy as... ahwell, take anything that's too easy

For me it's far from easy, BiFiMSX. I have never programmed a smooth scroll. I never programmed the VDP I/O based! For me, this is all very much a thrill. And I know I'm going to learn A LOT.

Hey Lord Zett, I know snout is enthusiastic about yer font! I have it here, but no MSX to try it on...Will let you know. Thinking about the vdp copyprocedure already. Soon I'll place some of my thoughts about the technical things considering the demo right here.

ro,

again, where's the border?

Didn't you make fkernel to get rid of all the repeating, dull handcode? That's quite the same, you go one level up in terms of code and development.

Do you agree that the various ingredients of a demo can be split up in:
- code
- text
- font
- misc gfx
- tune

If yes, do you agree that in the end there must be some compiler or merge-together app to make an executeble MSX project?
If yes, do you agree that this 'compiler' doesn't need to be an msx program?

My experience in the past was that the creative ppl wanted to do more than the coders had time for. By making such a compiler app, you give artists the means to be independent..

Or do you blame Konami too for not using 100% msx to make their games?

If I'd consider participating, why do you think I'd do it on the V99x8 and not V9990?

Besides, a smooth scroller is nothing more than 2 copy's done after each other. The first is to copy the scroller and the second to copy the next line(s) of the font. (oh sorry, did I spoil it now?) Well, it can be done with a hardware-used horizontal scroll as well using page flipping. A bit harder as you need to do a little bit more than just the two copy's. Very useful for ehrm... somewhat bigger fonts that would glitch with the two simple copy's...
