Tired of pressing reset button!

UnregisteredGeplaatst: 18 September 2003, 10:12
When I work (ehm, play) on MSX, I'm compelled to reset if I want to change to another application.
Isn't there any utility that can be set up as a hot key to press to return to DOS or BASIC?

I thought the reset button was pretty hot already

Anyway, a hotkey does not exist, and a TSR or something would be usefull since most games disable the complete BIOS (and interrupts) so the TSR won't work...

Actually there is.

Use POKE &HFBB0,1 before starting a program. Then, you can use GRAPH+STOP to quit any program and return to BASIC.
However, text mode will not be automatically initialised, so you will have to press SHIFT+HOME (to clear the screen) and type SCREEN0 blindly.

However, this implies pressing 26 keys more (including the return keys)

Yeah, but if you can type fast, it's faster than waiting for the MSX Startup screen

wait a minute, you probably want to return to the DOS enviroment too, eh
another few keys to strike...

_system[ret]

thaz 8 more... now, you REALLY have to be ULTRA FAST!

(btw. what if all foreground and background colours would both be, oh I dunno, black.. would 'screen 0' fix this?? so, a few keys more SHIFT+F1 (color 15,4,4) )

Actually this does not work too well as many program loaders start with POKE &HFBB0,0OKE &HFBB1,1 that disables it again.

The correct key combination is: CTRL + SHIFT + GRAPH + KANA lock | CODE

Actually if you don't hold this combination, but just hit it fast, the text mode will be initialised. You can learn that with little practise.

If you play DSK games on HDDEMU, there is also possibility to activate return to DOS key combination.

I think this is not common practice for normal programs. Only 'scene' programs, AFAIK.

It's not about the activity.. well... not only. It's mainly about the contents. And now you've just been pointing people to one single forumtopic from 15 or 16 different forum threads. I can understand your enthousiasm for your quiz, but suppose everybody who started a new forum topic would do the same... If you want to dig up old forum topics, please be a bit more on-topic than this. And if you start a new forumtopic you don't have to worry about people reading it and replying to it. They will, they most certainly will

It was also for the fun ... do you have noticed that I've already stopped the game since I've 513 posts ?

But probably, it's now too late to get an answer to my Quiz ... so, I'm curious to see tomorrow the answers
