Hi there!
Good to see so many "old faces" here!
Actually, I just read some of you guys wondered whatever happened to me
Ok, that's a bit of long story, but let's keep it on the game side:
1994:
NOSFERATU, MSX2 (not finished)
Should have been a Vampire Killer - Killer
But in team Element, we decided to make a better version for
the Super Nintendo.
1995:
SHRINES OF ENIGMA
Shrines of Enigma, MSX2 (published)
Great fun to make.
1996:
FANTASY HUNTER (= New, Not Nosferatu, but similar )
Super Nintendo
Real Media Movie: www.johnrobinsmith.com/fhuntersnes.rm
Fantastic project, 85% done (check the link above), but became hard
to sell once the PS1 was introduced.
2001:
VIRTUAL GOTCHA!
PC (3D Game)
http://www.studenten.net/gotcha/
Great success with blowing up the Studiefinancierings building.
Was before 11 sept. when everybody then knew it was a student joke.
Sponsored and financed by many well-known Dutch companies: bruna, brunel,
PC Zone, Ormit, CSS.
2002:
VIRTUAL GOTCHA 2
PC (3D Game)
http://www.virtualgotcha.com
Pan-European multiplayer game for Philips in 8 countries.
MAJOR exposure, see: www.johnrobinsmith.com/kranten.jpg
Enjoy this movielink, it says it all:
www.johnrobinsmith.com/rtl-z.rm
or try a google search for "virtual gotcha"
2003:
My fulltime occupation is Corporate Account Director in the Management Team of VBAT Enterprise, Schiphol.
Cheers,
John-Robin

Hey John-Robin! Long time no see indeed! Nice to hear you're still alive. Pity to hear that the gameconsole adventures didn't work out eventually. Neither did Nosferatu, but you already knew about that . |

I'll be damned.....John-Robin Smith......hehehe......Back in the early 90s, when I first heard yer name, I already asked myself why I should know you. You disappeared, but now I finally have got the change to ask you....Erhm....Did you go to the Augustinus College in Groningen actually?

Yes, I think it could very well be done on the GFX9000 indeed.
The only issue is that the GFX9000 has a small userbase. Commercially it
might be interesting to port it to the Gameboy Advance.

Good to hear from you again! Long time ago. Well, the SNES adventure was an excellent learning in trying to develop commercial games. On the MSX, it was for hobby reasons. Nosferatu was my kind of pet project
Commercial development makes things very different. You make a game for your client, not primairily for yourself. On the other hand, it brings fantastic opportunities, such as bluescreening (www.johnrobinsmith.com/bluescreen.jpg) and hopefully motion capture soon...
Latok> Ha, Augustinus college, yes indeed. That's quite a while ago |

Hm, ok, we went to the same school then. But........Still, dunno.....Probably, you know Arnaud Helmantel?

True, compared to GBA it's a very small userbase
It's really hard to get into GBA market today.. It's almost fully saturated and nintendo and publishers are not making things easier for you.
It's close to impossible to sell an original game (ie. not a movie-license or something) if you don't have an EXTENSIVE track record, and close relations with a big publisher. And even then...
But I'm not going into a 90% of current games is crap discussion AGAIN, sorry ;P |

Wow... even more Augustinus College folks here? Man, I didn't even know that the A.C. was kinda like a kindergarten for the MSX scene
Latok, did that Arnaud Helmantel have a brother called Wietze? In that case, I know at least his brother |
