All in all a very fun day
Spent 9 hours travelling to and from Bussum, and 4 hours on the fair.

I want to thank HCC MSXgg for offering me a table

Bought a lot of games, and I see my little MSX robot made the photoshoot.

I'm looking forward to the next fair

It was a nice robot

On the pictures I see that Jetse Mellema brought his russian Yamaha MSX2 machines and tried to show how the networking works. According to the picture, he don't have a terminator inserted into the network card, so I think the demonstration was a failure...

or it wasn't ?

Eventually he succeeded in loading a remote game (Usas) from the master MSX to the client MSX

I am so glad to hear it was a success !

Yamaha MSX2 networking was a very advanced thing in it's time.
I even wrote distributed programs for it !

Master computer was sending a copy of MSX-DOS with number of tools to 15 client machines, then each client was running a quiz for a student (it was an examination program for the school of oriental studies) in BASIC. In the end of quiz, the client machine entered MSX-DOS (placed in a virual disk) and sended the results of answering the quiz to the master computer, where everything is logged.

And, of course, the network was very easy and fast way to load various games to various computers from the single floppy ! We even managed to send C or Pascal on a ramdisk !

Hmm... never heard about "Russian C". I saw 2 versions of C, one of them was Hitech C (IIRC), and I saw good programming libraries for C and Pascal featuring most of MSX hardware abilities.

(I was talking about sending a number of files to the client machine, where disk support is emulated with a ramdrive, so you can send everything, including MSX-DOS and dos programs).

About "Russian" programming languages.
There are:

1. "Russian Algorithmic Language" (used for teaching programming, uses russian keywords)

2. Rapira (good language with very advanced data structures, uses most of MSX2 abilities, has it's own built-in windowing system a-la Turbo Pascal, russian keywords)

3. Logo - yes, a language for turtles... with full set of VDP commands, networking support, disk access, assembler subroutines and everything you can think about !

If you want to try these, I can search my archive.

Don't be surprised too much with the high quality of these languages - MSX computers in Russia were primarily used for education, so the software was created not only by amateur groups of individuals, but also by professionals in universities for Ministry of Education that sent it to the schools.

Actually I've been looking for a good C compiler with IDE for MSX for quite some time.

I know about MSX-C (Jap), GST-C (UK) and Hitech-C (?).
But none of them has a good IDE as far asI know
Except for GST-C, which seems to have an IDE, but it isn't 100% compatible with the K&R C language
GST-C doesn't support typedef, multidimensional arrays, structures, etc. which is kinda sad

If anybody knows a good C compiler/toolset with IDE (GUI), please let me know
