what a typical reply... it might be easy for you and me, but mr. n00b would appreciate if he could read it. i could have known that the gamereader example wasnt good enough for some people...

Lol. Hardware can't get more plug and play than the MSX GameReader. The Japanese sheet that comes with it can hardly be called a manual, simply because there's nothing much to tell about it.

MSXPLAYer could use an English interface though

Well, once Sunrise starts to produce and other MSX emulators support the MSX GameReader the interface can't be more English than that

Ever seen the European version of Metal Gear (heck, who hasn't?! )?
"... to destoroy Metal Gear ..."

Dude, that has happened on multi-gazillion-dollar game consoles. It's just not easy to find people that *really* speak both English and Japanese. The worst part is that there is an international conspiracy going on that absolutely bans anyone that can actually translate from becoming an official translator. As a rule of thumb, in order to become an official translator the prime requisite is that you *suck* at either of the languages you translate from/to or preferably both. Since most software producers will hire translation agencies to do the translating, as an added bonus you get people that translate something while they don't have a clue *what* they are translating... Anyways, it's pretty common... Just in the last few years it has become common for a team of westerers (usually americans) to actually read the translation to see if it makes any sense. But hey, MSX prolly wasn't a first with this, nor will it be the last one...

You have no chance to survive make your time!!!

why they dont build a slot expander with 4 or more slots to suport the msx hardware like: moonsound,v9990,music module, dos 2.20,SCSI/IDE/CFlash then it would be a better product.

or start with a new MSX i dont care if its one chiped ( i needs to be like a MSX so no win xp and pc crap if not you can download MSXBOX for the same result)

The game reader is a good product.....but its a good marketing trick that msx users gonna buy original games

First alinea has to with technical issues. The Gamereader , the word itself says enough to play games. If you want more an external powersupply is needed

Marketing trick is also not quite the issue because they (msx association) have not thought to give it a follow-up. That is what I miss still, our reader , I have thought about it and that will be another surprise.

DarQ: I'm pretty sure that when Microsoft and MSX Association come to an agreement about spreading MSX System ROMs (and thus MSXPLAYer) outside of Japan, they won't release a Japanese version.

Well, MSX Association is a company. Not some charity fund. If they think they will lose money on something, they won't do it. If Microsoft keeps blocking MSX Association from spreading the MSX System ROMS out of Japan, things are going to get tough.

If Microsoft agreed to license the ROMs for use in Japan, I don't see why a similar deal could not be made for Europe and other parts of the world. Did MSX Association try to negotiate for the rights to use the ROMs outside of Japan? And if so, did Microsoft say no unconditionally, or couldn't they reach agreement for some reason? (such as the price of the license)

Anyway, licensing the ROMs from Microsoft is not the only option. For example, there is C-BIOS, which is BSD-licensed, so MSX Association could use it. C-BIOS is not perfect yet and it does not include BASIC, but it is sufficient to run many ROM games. Those games could be sold in Europe. If MSX Association could afford to hire a programmer to improve fMSX (the initial code base for MSX Player), they could hire a programmer to improve C-BIOS where needed as well.

Please don't get me wrong: if MSX Association as a company decides for whatever reason not to sell their products on the European market, no problem. But I don't believe "they really want to, but evil Microsoft won't let them" type of explanations...

Well i dont want a game reader because i have 3 Real msx computers (turbor,wavy2+,vg8020msx1)

but i have some questions

is the game reader developed for non msx users to play real games or for people who dont know any more how to connect their real msx on a television?

how does the SCC sound in a game reader ?

is it emulated or is it the real SCC ?

or is it like the real classic msx SCC sound ?

The SCC is emulated. SCCchips of inserted Konami's aren't used.

I don't like emulation, it is nowhere near the real thing. So my answer is: no. But we can disagree on this one

I would be a better marketing trick if there were MSX cartridge games being produced now.
