| MSX2 with Highscreen monitor?

I received my NMS8250, which I ordered from Bas, yesterday and I've started looking for a nice monitor to hook it up to and today I've found a Highscreen KP548, which used to be used with an Amiga. However, when I hooked it up using a SCART cable the BASIC screen did show the correct white text, but the blue background wasn't blue: instead it consisted of vertical bars with all the colours of the rainbow.
Does anybody know whether this is something that can be remedied by using a special cable or is the monitor just broken or maybe only for usage with an Amiga?
MTIA for any help in this matter.

Thanks for the tip, but of course I already tried to find some info using google before posting my question. Unfortunately though there doesn't seem to be much info on the Highscreen KP548 and none about connecting it to an MSX. The only document about a Highscreen monitor with a scart connector that I could find is at www.museo8bits.com/biblioteca/msx/HSCMen.pdf
This does talk about the Euroconnector (i.e. SCART) a bit, but since I really don't understand much about electronics this doesn't tell me whether the picture should have been OK or not. I mean, maybe the SCART-signals from an NMS8250 just aren't compatible with what this monitor expects... I just don't know. The monitor also has a CVBS and a TTL RGB input, but also of these I'm not sure if I can use these (and unfortunately I haven't got cables for that, so I can't even try it).
Anyway, if anybody recognizes my problem description (the rainbow effect) and can tell me whether that means that I should be able (I won't pin anybody down on his/her advice of course) to connect my MSX to it, but just with a modified cable or using CVBS or the TTL RGB inputs, OR that the monitor is broken for sure then I know whether to buy the monitor or not.

On a hunch I did a search on google groups (usenet google) using "monitor rainbow" as the search keywords and from what I've found there I suspect the monitor is beyond repair. Small rainbow effects normally are caused by a faulty degaussing unit, but it's possible to do an external degaussing to get that fixed. However, the fullscreen rainbow effect probably means that the "shadow mask"/"aperature grill" has broken off and that would mean replacing the CRT...
And so the search for a nice monitor continues... Thanks to POISONIC for his/her replies though.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't dare post, coz I really don't know anything about it ^^; |
