Hey,
I'd love to play The Lost World with openmsx. So i tried making a .dsk of the ORIGINAL(!) disks. Before making a disk image of it i need to mount the disk on my linux box. But it complains about an unknown filesystem. This is obviously caused by the copyprotection on it.
Now im asking for a .dsk of at least the first disk of that game. I don't care where it comes from as long as someone can give it to me, or explain how to make a dsk on my own.
And hey, it's my legal right to have a backup copy of an original game
greets!
(oh and snout, something i'd thought a lot about, please give us the possibility to jump to the submit button FROM this textarea with the tab.. please... now, i need the mouse, or hit the tab a lot of times to skip the smilies ) |

you can use real disks in openMSX ;P
does that work?
openMSX /dev/fd0
or something like that

snout, that would be openmsx -disk /dev/fd0 but i should mount it with mount /floppy or mount -t <type> /floppy but it can't didn't work because it's an unknown filesystem. And im very sure that i enabled all possible filesystems in my customkernel..
oowww, dsk's pleeeeeeeeaaaase |

you'd still need the original first disk to run the game
(unless.... hehe)

In answer to Darq
1. You are always entitled to have a backup.
I can provide you always a backup if you pay postage and package and provide a disk.
and show to originals on a fair.
2. Working of Sunrise games is guaranteed under MSX2 and higher And not on Emulators
If they work you may be happy.
3. Sunrise works on a diskimage of several games.

yes, i wouldnt expect all games to work on emu's straigt away. I think i'll wait until u have diskimages.Don't feel like using the mail for a simple disk.
anyway, could i crack it myself??? NOOO!! obviously now
but still, im very sure that someone that reads this post has an (possibly illegal) disk image of disk 1 |

You're confusing some things here.
openMSX can use your disk as a disk image, without mounting by doing this:
openmsx -diska /dev/fd0
If you mount it, you are in fact using the DirAsDisk feature. However, copyprotected games often don't work when using the 'real floppy' feature, since it is exactly the same as making a disk image. DirAsDsk obviously only works with files and should only be used with read only disks! (See manual.) |

yes i remember that part of the manual. forgotten the fact that mounting is actually not required. anyway most things luckily do work with openmsx... and very smooth!! btw: opl4 emu still cracks a bit sometimes..

You can try to change the sound buffer size in your settings.xml... In my experience it reduces the cracking sounds, but it also seems to have a negative effect on the timing (gets more irregular). |
