I have bought this msx for not that much money, so i expected that some hardware was rott or something so it is not a big surprise to me. But after I fixed the diskdrive (new drive-belt, make it dust free) a new problem occured: it seems like the joystick ports are broken or something. I cant detect loose contacts or something, does anybody know a bit about this kind of issues? I tested it with a 100% working arcade joystick........

u might wanna take out the 'ol solder iron and re-solder ALL connections again, just to be sure. could be a case of corrosion or anything like that.

dude, the s39 stuff is used by PLUMMERS (soldering pipes) so why even bring it up ?
rather use a 20watt iron and don't overhead just tip the existing solder untill it start to melt, add a LITTLE (necessary to make the connection smoothly again) extra solder and let go....

So, what is the problem with the joystick? You never told us about the symptoms. |

I have 2 TheArcade joysticks too and the problem you have might not even be the connector, these joysticks were originally meant for use with an Amiga or Commodor 64, moving a jumper inside the joystick hull should do the trick if you have the same joysticks as I have, which I assume is true, because you said they were original Arcade joysticks.

THey did work on your VG8235?
If they don't work on your nms8245 it could also be possible that you have modded joystick ports, many 8245's have that, mine doesn't but a friend of mine has 2 of 'em which are both modded, one of which he has done it himself to make his Amiga and Commodore sticks and mice work.
If that is the case it is possible that they won't work at all, unless you change them back to their original state (like resolding the wires inside to their original places), it should be very easily visible from the inside if they aren't original.

Modded joystick ports?! That's a first for me... I'd try checking the solder joints... If there are indeed a bunch of wires and cut print-lines then I guess port-modding does exist... (Most people just mod the joystick tho...)
