I have just aquired a FSA1 GT Turbo-R, and want to know what I have to do to use it in the UK...

I daren't just plug it in and hope for the best: can anyone tell me what voltage it needs, and if it will connect straight to a UK PAL TV?

Sorry if this questions seems stupid...

Don't just plug it in!!!

It runs on 100/110 Volts AC, so it needs a down-convertor in Europe. There are some more caveats...

MSXturboRs have a RGB output so you can plug the computer to a SCART21 TV input.

As said above, check http://www.faq.msxnet.org

Look at 14.4 section for the RGB->SCART21 connector.

A lucky man - well I have a suitable TV set if you live any where near Leicester, and need to try some nice MSX peripherals - such as a CF-IDE interface, SCC cartidge, FM PAC (sorry forgot you already have one!) ESE-SCC megaRAM cartridge you will be welcome to pay me a visit

I have three MSX2's see my website

I use a standard PAL Philips RGB MSX monitor.
You just need the correct RGB->SCART connector cable.
Since this is a PAL monitor, I think you should easily be able to use it on a PAL TV set using this type of SCART cable (I haven't tested it however, I always use the monitor).
(You can buy those from Bas Kornalijnslijper, ask around for his email - If I remember correct, he asks about 12 euro for a cable)

Second you need a step-down power converter that converts 230V to a suitable100-110V.
It costs about 19 euro in an electronics shop.

Greetings.
Kris.

PAL/NTSC is irrelevant when using RGB signals. Not all TV's with SCART connectors support RGB!

A newish UK TV set (last ten years) will support a composite video NTSC or PAL signal via the scart socket. I still have a NTSC modified Megadrive that I use on my seven year old Sony 25" TV, and love playing my MSX favourites on the same TV.

A step down transformer can be obtained from Maplin, or any good electrical retailer. The TurboR should not consume too much power so a low power one should be ok? Anyone know the power consumption of a TurboR, either the VA or the Wattage rating? Add 10% onto the rating and buy a stepdown transformer to the nearest rating, going higher. If you use a step down transformer with too low a rating you will damage the transformer, and maybe even the TurboR

Some people use stepdown convertors for electronic shavers. But those get REALLY hot ^^;

Did any of you try the RCA connector?

I guess FSA1 GT has one of this, like the FSA1 ST that appears at
www.aamsx.org/howto-1.php?lang=en

and here said "This time we'll use a RCA cable instead of SCART, because our TV set doesn't have a SVHS connector, and we don't have a DIN8-SCART cable."

GT doesn't have RCA... Just S-Video and RGB.

And did you know if the Svideo works? (if european TV has Svideo in of course)

As far as I know it is a different type of S-Video.
I think the turboR SVideo and the modern SVideo have a different amount of pins.
(If I remember correct)

I'm going to test Svideo and RCA from the FSA1WX. I've the svideo cable and the pins match with the MSX, and the TV input.

Just I'm waiting for the AC conversor and I'll tell you what happens...
