Hi
Can a normal FMPAC be converted to a stereo FM pac.
If so how?

you have to understand that the term "stereo" is a bit of loose one here...
the "stereo" can be achieved by splitting the FM and PSG sounds...
How? uhm, I know how but can't explain without specs. Maybe Hans van Oranje might fill you in on that?!

My MSX2+ has this modification:
FM channels left, and FM drums plus PSG right (or vice versa ) |

uhm .. 'stereo' ? or do you mean a line-out connector with the same signal coming at the left and the right?

Seriously... 2 MSX veterans and neither of you have heard about stereo FM-PACs?! ^^;

Not at all.. FM Stereo PAK was widely produced (by MSX Club Gouda IIRC), as importing a true FM-PAC was very costly. FM-PACs were going for crazy prices back then. Similar to the days of MSX-AUDIO for NLG250.

Do not know how it sounds. I was just curious. Would still like to see the schematics for both.

Problem with the "Stereo" fm-pak is that if the music uses 9 normal channels and no drum you only hear sound on one channel

The technical specifications of the MSX-MUSIC chip is for 2xRCA Audio outputs, one with six channels the other with three channels or optionally the 5 drum kit sounds.
There is not a FM-PAC that use Stereo sound, but there are external cartridges like the Brazilian clones of the FM cartridge (without PAC) that had the STEREO effect, even addicting or disabling the "three" PSG channels on the second audio output. The overall sound quality is better than the imported ones or the internal output!
It is weird that the Japanese machines do not follow the MSX-MUSIC specification for the RCA Audio Output.
The audio specifications was on the official Yamaha site until very few years ago, the PDF that specifies the MSX-MUSIC sound chip. The Yamaha synthesizer chip is capable of Frequency Modulation (until 9 channels) or even Amplitude Modulation.
