The website (www.robsy.net) was down before and during the deadline. I was actually planning making a last-minute entry, but I couldn't finish my game in time for december 1st.
NOW I see the site back up and it states the deadline was extended to december 9th!
It would've been better if Robsy had e-mailed the International MSX Mailinglist or another public place about this!! This really shows bad organisation...
I've lost 6 days, and I can't finish it in 3... So, no entry from me afterall... This really sucks!!

Any thoughts?

Hello.

You had a whole year to code something. But, anyway, it was very good you decided to code something in the last days, why not. The first step was to send him an e-mail and you could have asked anywhere for it.

I don't think it's been bad organized. The competition started a year ago, there have been some posts here, trying to get games for the competition some days ago (I wrote one, for instance) and, I repeat it, you could have asked for his e-mail address -if you don't already have it- instead of complaining.

I'm not telling you off badly, just that I don't think the competition deserves that comment.

You can always code something for the next year competition -and don't leave it for the last day!

Bye.

Sure, I had a year... EVERYBODY had a year.. Then WHY was it necessary to move the deadline just like that? A year is a year and a deadline is a deadline, isn't it?!

It has come to my attention that the SPANISH MSX mailinglist DID get a notification of the deadline change! Why didn't the INTERNATIONAL MSX mailinglist get a notification?!

IMO this really shows BAD organisation, or at least a favour towards the spanish contestants.

I also wonder what will happen to all these prizes, while there are only 5 contestants. Will some be saved for next year's competition?

And about my last-minute coding, I had no choice!

I don't think I ever demonstrated any kind of speed-coding ^^;
I might come close to the record in optimized coding tho

As you can read now in his homepage there's only one/two game/s ready so instead of cancel the competition he gave 9 more days to the constestans. I think it was a really good idea.

As I told you before, you should have written an e-mail to him when you decided that 'maybe' you would code something. Robsy wrote to all the contestants the 1st of December asking for the games and since he was told that only one game was ready he wrote to them again saying they had till 9th of December, because he didn't want the competition to be a failure (so it was not 'a favour towards the spanish contestants'). He also wrote in the HispaMSX mailing list, but don't forget that if you had wrote an e-mail to him, anyday, he would have told you about the progress of the competition because he wants as much games for the competition as possible.

I really can't see the point of your complaint. I think it's your problem and not bad organization. Ask the other contestants if they think there's been bad organization.

About the prices ... I don't think it's important if they decide to give no price at the end. In my opinion what the MSX community needs is games. And not only games but a positive attitude for the community. Why don't you finish that game anyway? It seems you could finish it in about 9 games. I'm sure everybody will be grateful for that.

Don't make this 'problem' bigger and take it easy, mate.

Bye.

I don't really care that I can't make my game now, because I couldn't make it before december 1st anyway... I had already given up on it.

What I DO care about is that the spanish community did get an update to matters concerning the competition, and the international community did not. Especially since before the International MSX Mailinglist was kept up to date. It seems Robsy dislikes the non-spanish MSX scene. First he makes his website 100% spanish, and only after many complaints he turned it to bi-lingual. Now he ignores the international community in his reports about MSXdev'03. It's all very curious.

I know several people/teams that did plan to make an entry afterall, but obviously (or they would've entered) they could not finish before december 1st either.

Ofcourse it's good that the MSX scene gets more games, but limiting them to MSX1 16K RAM doesn't really give the MSX scene the quality it wants... It's very good for showing your skills on a very limited machine, but less good for the average end result.

I will keep an eye on how things work out, but it's getting very messy... That's all.

It's indeed very messy. I'll tell you guys what I experienced:

On march 18th, 2003 I mailed Robsy asking him if it was necessary to submit a game for the competition as I'm working on something that isn't a game (let's call it MSX1BSP) since I was planning on entering the competition with it. This resulted in no reply whatsoever.

I decided to leave the mail as-is and continued developing on other projects. Until just two days ago, when I tried to get myself to be a judge on the contest and decided to wait for a reply for 48 hours. It's been over 48 hours now and I wonder what does it take to get Robsy to respond? This really shows quite a lack of organisation skills if you ask me.

from what i read here i wouldn't call it lack of organisation skills, but abuse of discrimination skills

It's been a week since the moved deadline. There's been no updates on the site.

Did any of the judges get any notice whatsoever?
