Hello there, I am new to MSX land but am familiar with Z80 becouse I use
ZX SPECTRUM since about 1983.
I have bought a Philips NMS 8250, mouse, 1flopdrive, monitor.
Now I have played "Parodius" on the emulated version of this MSX but after copy (dskmanager) it to disk and run it on the real one it does NOT load the final part, it is stuck on 80% loading then saying:
Disk Offline in 6
Ok
I copied the copie Back AND IT WORKS AGAIN!!,emulated.
So do i have a RAM problem
Is there a system checking prog? some where?

Your NMS 8250 probably has the original 128kB RAM, most cracked MegaROM games (like Parodius) require at least 256kB RAM.

Or, something is wrong with your diskdrive (to explain Disk Offline).

I remember playing parodius on my virgin 8245 (128k) that was including the scc music! My parodius had a cheat, I became invincible and could fly through walls |

Its a 128 kb ram and 128 kb video,
So that might be the problem. as the file together are 131kb probably packed!
Ok Thanx al lot
PS, I think the emu starts with that config as well!?!?!?

Indeed, there is a version of Parodius which runs complete with sound on an MSX2 with the original 128 kB RAM.

VRAM is generally of little consequence for cracked games. Although for some games versions exist that use parts of the VRAM unused by the game for storing game-data, or load extra data half-way the game. Such a version is probably what wolf__ played.
About emu configs, I don't know what emu you use, but e.g. NLMSX defaults to 2MB RAM.

Well I do use NLmsx but with the nms8250 ROM invoked.
It starts with a screen telling 128 Kb RAM 128Kb Video.
I had a look in the BASIC part and it is an Intelligent start cyclus.
Parodius.bas starts a CHECKER!! called parodius.7
This pokes a value at f978 (or some) from wich the BASIC decides to go on with Parodius.0 OR Parodius.8
They both look quite equal and have a loop to load "parodius.1 to .6"
BUT
A SAD SAD SAD Thingie happened to occur...
I looked realy IN my diskdrive, had to unsrcew about 20 srews (7+4+2+4+3)
realy got big dust floks from the 'leadbar' for the head machanism...
And f#$% my upperhead while testing the machanism by putting in a Flop...
Probably it was already a bit lose becouse I did not FEEL it happen...
Now I try to put in an other old drive (i hope 720 and not 1.44)
But the cables are SHORT!!!

The start screen is meaningless in a NMS 8250 (or any other MSX2), in NLMSX it will have 2MB RAM. |

I believe you when you say so.
Meanwhile I got cable contact but the machine totaly gives a "disk off line" now.
Maybe the other drive is faulty to but the start resonse seams normal and when I turn the falt cnle revers the stays a lite so that normal to when yoy do that as mistake.
Its the same brand a Mitsumi but a D359T3 instead off a D357 .
I beter test it in my pc to be sure where the problem is.
Other thing might be the BIOS or ROM chip, thus msx have BIOS??
But the screen size is often only 5 char when i start until i us 'width(40)'
so some system variable is NOT STEADY!!
So i recall to my original question
-is there a system cheker for msx?
A hopefully
