But why... why do you want a Japanese MSX? My MSX2+ is Japanese, but I can't say there's any added value compared to my European MSX2, aside from the '2+' thing... Well ok, the Kanji modes are cool to look at , and the Japanese characters on the keyboard might be kinda fun. Oh, and I'm almost forgetting the additional kana led indicator. But really, if you're going to play translated games anyway, I don't see a real need to have it even for the few which use it (Princess Maker, and Twinkle Star, those are the only two I know of).

I guess it's the 'gadget' factor .

I live in the US. Japan and America both use NTSC. I don't have any PAL TVs or monitors, so it would just be a lot easier for me. Plus, like you said, it's fun having Japanese charaters on the keyboard

I finally got my MSX! It's a Yahama YIS-604/128. It's got an external disk drive and everything seems to be working well. I also got a bunch of games with it, but I've mostly been playing Knightmare. That's a really awesome game!

Kris, you mentioned in an earlier post that you can use a Sega Master System controller in the joystick slot. I tried doing this and it only sorta worked. I can use the d-pad and only one of the buttons, which sucks with games like Nemesis where you need two buttons. Do you think there might be a problem with the joystick port or do your controllers react the same way?

Kevin

Congrats .

As for the controller, this is the MSX connector's pin layout:
http://faq.msxnet.org/connector.html#joystick

And this is the Sega Master System's:

So, solution: change the wire from pin 9 of the SMS controller to pin 7, and connect pin 9 to the ground (same as pin 8).

I'll try that out. Thanks for the info!
