Why do you wanna trade it? I think the module is the best music-expansion for msx (except for the moonsound then....but he)

Sorry for the noobism, but can you use a musicmodule as an FMPAC then?

No, you can't use Music Module as FM-PAC.

Which is the best (besides the technical differences) depends on your tastes. Do you want to play mainly japanese games with great music, get FM-PAC. Do you like better the european scene products (games and demos), keep the Music Module.

If you wanna play games, the fm-pac is the best option, but the module has got 9 fm channels (same as fm-pac ) and one sample-channel (ever heard sampled drums on a fm-pac? ) Okay I have to admit that micro-cabin comes near with a mix of fm + psg drums. Btw. Way back when I had only a music module I played aleste and golvellius 2 with this module (poke -54,36 I thought ).

OK, good answers... I guess I'm going to play games with it. I mainly used the musicmodule to fiddle around a bit with FAC Soundtracker. I'm not planning on using it anymore, so if someone wants to trade it for an FM-PAC and a Konami Megarom (Maze of Galious, Penguin Adventure, Salamander), that would be cool!

iirc aleste and the likes support msx-audio. So playing that music on the musmod would be no problem.

The FM itself is better on the fm-pac due to the extra operator type (a.k.a. 'distorted waveform').

But game/scene is the best way to divide these music chips I guess..

Indeed, most (if not all) COMPILE games support MSX-AUDIO. This is not the case for most (all?) other games.
In order to activate MSX-AUDIO (Music Module) support, POKE -54,35 must be used before booting the game. (Tip: leave disk out of drive, use POKE, insert disk, type CALL SYSTEM)

Personally I like the FM drums in the FM-PAC better than in the Music Module too.

POKE &HF346,1
