Does anybody know which MSX model was the very first MSX to be sold on the market ?
Did ASCII make any MSX computers ? If so, the very first model should have been theirs ?

Thanks you.

I think it was a Sony or Toshiba machine - but that comes from a long lost memory that i had of an interview with Nishi in a UK MSX magazine

ASCII laid down the specification, they didnt make a commercial machine. Did MicroSoft make PC's to run MS-DOS?

So, Sony or Toshiba, hmmm...

Maybe the Toshiba HX-10 ?
It is one of the most common systems in both Japan and Europe...
In Japan it's also known as Toshiba Pasopia (IQ).

I believe that more than one company released MSX1s at the same time. I don't know which one arrived to shops first, though.

The first ones could be Fujitsu FM-X, Canon V8/V10, Casio MX-10/MX-101, General Paxon series, Hitachi MB-H1, Victor HC-6, Mitsubishi ML-8000, National/Panasonic CF-1200, Sanyo MPC-2, Sony HB-55, Toshiba HX-10 and the Yamaha CX-5 amongst others.

Check http://faq.msxnet.org/hardware.html for pictures.

Based on what?

On their amount of memory (only 16/32 Kbytes of RAM).

Okay, but most of these computers are quite special machines with all kinds of extras. For example, the Paxon is a MSX with built-in monitor, the Hitachi MB-H1 has built-in software, etc.

The General Paxon MSXes are rare. But we are not talking about the rarity of the machines.

The other were common machines in Japan and quite a lot of them where sold outside Japan (For instance: Sony HB-55, Panasonic CF-1200, Casio MX series, Toshiba HX-10, ... where sold in Spain).

I know, but I doubt if these special machines were the first ones. Most of the special machines are 'enhanced' versions of the excisting populair models.

And so the search for the first MSX continues...

I don't have the first issue of the Japanese "MSX MAGAZINE" (it appeared during the last months of 1983):
http://www.generation-msx.nl/library/japan/magazine/msxmagazine/1983

If someone owns it maybe he/she could tell us which MSXes appeared first (looking to the ads/computers in the magazine).
