Have you tried cleaning the cart and slot with alcohol (not whiskey or so, but the alcohol you use to clean medicinal thermometers). Maybe the slot or cart is just dirty.

yes it mite be dusty .. it seems to attact the stuff

still worried about the PSU
as it has a bit of tape around it

am woundering if it would be possible

1) get another MSX PC (Toshiba easy to get hold of and use its PSU)
im not sure of all MSX have the same PSU or what

2) get a ATX PSU and make an adaptor
it should be a pretty smooth PSU

Which model of CX5M ? I am in leicester by the way

I think it should be easy enough to find out what sort of power supply you need. There is a specification on MSX hans (members.chello.nl/h.otten/indexhw.htm)

I think an AT power supply would be a lot easier to wire up too. The choice would be yours. You need +5v, +12v and -12v according to the diagram on the above site.

Have a nice day

An AT power supply has its own switch for the mains, using an ATX power supply requires some sort of switch since the ATX power supply works differntly. I think there are a number of wires that need to be connected together to switch the power supply on.

Where in the Midlands are you? I have a spare AT case if you are interested? The power supply connection diagram contain the information that you need CN2 on the CPU board shows how the wires are connected. It would be a case of connecting the appropraite voltage to the appropraite connectors.

I think ive seen a link to by pass that switch problem some were !!
But was thinking maybe easyer then with a AT PSU and Case that way i can keep it stored and i cant change the Display for the Phono connectino for the MSX and maybe a mini mixing desk.

mmm not got a clue what you mean there .. isnt it just
connect 1, 6, 10 and 13 to 5v
2, 78, 11 and 12 to GND
3 and 8 to 12v
and 4 to -12v

and the piuns 9 and 5 are a relay with the Switch on the MSX its self

I dont know the AT connection block myself but it will need a switch too
and that will be the one on the AT Case
