Made with MBWave 1.15, using standard ROM samples, so you'll need Moonsound. I used NLMSX to create it though, as my real MSX is disconnected.
MRC: You can freely add it to the download database if you want.

Hm... You DO know the NLMSX MoonSound emulation is far from perfect, eh? At least, if there weren't any changes I don't know about. OpenMSX has better emulation.
As composing can be quite a matter of subtleties in the sound, it seems a bit awkward to me to compose on a so-so emulated OPL4...

openMSX Moonsound emulation might be better, but still isn't quite like a real Moonsound. Most songs I tried sound rather awful with openMSX. (could be the replayer though )
The 4 operator voices don't sound the way they should. |

The problems with Moonsound emulation in NLMSX 0.47 have been solved with version 0.48.
So, if you compare with openMSX on this point, openMSX is better than NLMSX 0.47 but NLMSX 0.48 is better than openMSX : as for other music emulation (PSG, SCC, SCC+, MSX-AUDIO, MSX-MUSIC), you have a real enhanced sound in NLMSX.

I know this isn't the right place to ask this but, uhm, but, how do I configure nlmsx if I want to use moonsound? |

Whoa, I wouldn't think this is frontpageworthy, thanks snout.
Grauw: You're correct, emulation of Moonsound is not yet sufficient in emulators. I should have tested it on my MSX before releasing it.
I've just tested it and the modulation effect sounded awkward, so here's a fixed version, and an MP3 for the people who don't have a Moonsound (or are too lazy ).

sjoerd: Put the 2MB sample ROM in the roms directory and it should work.
*EDIT*
files from links are now gone to create space, you can get the mwm from the mrc download database |

Well, the tune sounds real nice, but too bad the overall sound lacks a certain... 'fullness', warmth... You should experiment some more with the ROM tones, and wavekits, and echoes (play with delay and lower sound on another channel), alternating channels, etc... Then it could turn out pretty nice, I think.
The koto (or something) on the background, in the beginning, if you alternate channels it can er, resonate, longer. And perhaps give it a little echo, maybe add a very soft warm tone, barely audible but just enough to fill up the gaps...
Ahwell, I'm not a real MoonSound music expert ;p, but heh ^_^. Anyways, tired as hell, and a cool MSX fair tomorrow, so I'm off! Hehe...

Grauw has a point. The song sounds a lot better if you remove all the [OFF] and [Vxx] events in channels W01-W06 Apart from that, a perfect first born, I'd say

I think I'll leave it the way it is. It's not a firstborn by the way; I'm familiar with composing songs on the PC.

ro: As the taste of music is subjective, I don't expect everyone to think the same of it. But what's the use of your mean remarks other than inducing a personal attack ? You could have told your opinion with more respectful words.

prolly it's because you used that nylon guitar .. no matter what instruments you use, fart-sounds, bagpipes, cartoon-noise, or the sound of the smashing of a certain c-sixty-four, Ro doesn't care.
However, if you take any guitar sound, Ro slowly becomes green, he bursts out of his cloths, his eyes become dangerous laserbeams and his breath becomes deadly. |

That put aside, if you post something to gather opinions you should be able to take some critisism aswell. Some people word it politely, some less polite, but you can expect both on a public forum.
It seems to happen all to often lately that people get angry over every bit of critisism if it is not worded in the most polite manner possible. And here I'm definately not talking about you in particular. Anyways, don't get worked up about it, and maybe also try to look behind the critisism, because no-one will write them for the fun of it.

I'm not angry or taking this personal. I just don't see any use being impolite when it comes to criticism, other than a personal attack like I said earlier.
