Loek hier, heel lang geleden redacteur van MSX-Engine. Sommigen van jullie kennen me misschien nog.

Nee, ik ben jullie niet vergeten. Nooit eigenlijk. MSX was en zal altijd een deel van m'n leven blijven. Een deel waar ik met genot op terugkijk. Ik ben inderdaad wel uit het wereldje gestapt, nadat bleek dat alle grote verhalen over het 'MSX-land' Japan niet op waarheid berustten. Mijn laatste daad, een interview met de hoofdredactrice van MSX-Fan, ene Noriko, was tegelijkertijd ook de meest frustrerende: ze legde me haarfijn uit dat het was afgelopen met MSX in Japan en dat ze binnenkort haar ontslag kon aanvragen.

Terug in Nederland heb ik toen subiet de stekker uit MSX-Engine getrokken. Laf? Misschien. Ik had er gewoon geen zin in om voor steeds minder leden te werken - het kon alleen nog maar minder worden. Voor ons dan. Het is fantastisch om te zien dat deze site het nog zo goed doet. Ons publiek stond echter op het punt om af te haken.

In de tussenjaren heb ik natuurlijk niet stilgezeten. Ik ben Japans gaan studeren, heb een eigen vertaalbureau geopend (www.akebono.nl) en ben zelfs met een Japanse vrouw getrouwd. Grappig om te zien hoe je leven zo be?Evloed kan worden door een computersysteem. De liefde voor Japanse games is ook altijd gebleven - zonder MSX zou die liefde er nooit zijn geweest.

En ach, dat vertalen is leuk en aardig en je verdient er een uitstekende boterham mee, maar er begon toch iets te knagen. Iets met Japans, iets met Japanse games... het resultaat is http://www.galbatron.com Die site werd vroeger voor andere, ietwat muzikalere activiteiten gebruikt, maar de muziekmarkt op internet is ingestort, dus ik ga hem nu voor andere zaken inzetten.

Als je wilt weten wat voor zaken, dan raad ik je aan eens een kijkje te nemen. De bedoeling is dat deze site de grootste game portal op het gebied van Japanse games in Nederland gaat worden. Da's niet zo moeilijk, want dat is het al. Er is in Nederland nauwelijks informatie over Japanse spellen te krijgen. Daar ga ik vanaf nu verandering in brengen.

Nee, 't is geen MSX. Maar het heeft er wel mee te maken.

Ik hoop dat jullie het me niet te zeer kwalijk nemen dat ik me ooit uit de MSX-wereld heb teruggetrokken. Het maken van MSX-Engine kostte heel veel tijd. Dan heb ik het al gauw over drie of vier uur per dag. Da's leuk als je 250 leden hebt. 't Is minder leuk als de waarheid over Japan boven tafel komt en je ledental binnen een maand terugloopt naar 160.

Als de site of het idee je bevalt, aarzel dan niet om e.e.a. door te sturen. We zijn nog geen drie dagen online en de eerste boycot van Nederlandse game sites is al binnen. Blijkbaar is men erg bang voor wat wij te vertellen hebben

For some weird reason, even the normal font at that site looked Japanese to me must be the slim rectangle-shape characterset that we also saw in Xak.

Hey Loek, assuming you'd like to continue the discussions in English I didn't move the topic to the Dutch forums (well, actually... I did move the topic, but then moved it back again )

Indeed, MSX has had very difficult times. I can imagine what impact Noriko's bad massage and the rapid decrease of MSX-Engine members had on you. Still, it's a shame that all Engine-activity was so suddenly discontinued back then. (On a sidenote: did the full name of this editor happen to be Noriko Kase? If so, she now works at ASCII and is involved with the MSX Magazines/MSX Association as well.)

Good to have you on the MRC, Loek! I hope you'll find your way to our forums a bit more often. We'll keep an eye on galbatron.com in our daily search of newsposts!

And what's a gaming website without a good boycot, eh? I was just playing YS6, by the way.

The idea of developing such a website is great. I'm very curious whether you'll succeed in your goals of becoming an important portal or not. After all, there are many people who are very interested in Japanese games.

By the way, since you studied Japanese in Leiden, you may think it's nice to take a look at my site: www.arsenaal.tk. Surely needs to be updated though, the latest update was December 14th, if I remember correctly...

Rikusu: your site brought back many ancient memories The Arsenaal was always a great place to be - I think the accommodation was one of the best of all faculties.

The two Norikos are different persons. The full name of the editor in chief of the former MSX Fan is Kitane Noriko.

As long as you've added the links to the Arsenaal site, you may consider changing the code so it displays properly in Mozilla.

I had no problems viewing the site with Mozilla 1.5, or maybe I just don't know what it is supposed to look like

Hehe... I know the code of the site isn't optimized and the reason is simple: I didn't find the time yet. I restyled the site in December and afterwards I went to Japan for three weeks. And since then I have been busy with various other things, so...

But could you tell me what goes wrong when viewing the site in Mozilla? GuyveR apparently has no problems...

Rikusu, the top banner image of http://www.arsenaal.tk is too big for its frame, so the menu remains hidden behind the bottom frame. The only way for me to view the menu is to click somewhere in its space and press PageDown. I just found out this happens both in Mozilla 1.6 as well as IE6 on my computer (Win2K, I'll try Linux later). Have you tested it in more than one resolution?

Other than that, I like the site, btw. I've spent some time at the Arsenaal as well during my studies, although my spell with Chinese lasted only one semester. It was nice to get drunk there with the international students every six months though.

I think I'm in danger of taking this thread off-topic.
