Hey everyone, just downloaded blue-msx and tried some old msx-demo's on it like fac-demo 4 and 5.
I think they still rule!! The musics, graphs and scrolls are in one word; great!
Anybody agrees? (or not)

Since the demos you mentioned are quite old (i.e. made in the early MSX demo period), I don't think they are the best demos for MSX.... Demos like Metal Limit, Unknown Reality or Almost Real are much more impressive, IMO

Quibus, guess why the topic says "OLD demo's", not "BEST demo's"

Don't forget the ANMA stuff... Source of Power is great.

You can say about FAC demo 4 and 5 what you want, they had an excellent atmosphere. FAC dmeo 5 had some truly impressive effects, demo 4 was quite an ordinary demo. Still it was one of the better demo's of that time. Why? The attitude, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem!!"

When I saw that demo I knew I wanted a Muziekmodule

In my opinion Almost Real lacked this attitude, and it had a bit too many fractal parts (okay, okay... I know that the Almost Real that was releaesd wasn't the Almost Real as it was once intended). Looking at the demo's of BCF (mostly in BASIC) and Impact (dito) I can only conclude that you don't need to push the MSX to its utter limits to impress.

It's the same with games.. The design is more important than the quality of the code.

The first ever demo'ish thing I saw was that Starcracks scrolltext with the colour-cycle, which was the intro for that ..ahum, sd-snatcher thingy

My first ever demo-collection was Genic Picture Disk 7 .. with the famous demo w/o sound ... from the RMF.
