I'm running fMSX on my MAC and recenty downloaded the English translation for Snatcher. It tells me I have to boot from Disc 0 but it wont work. Does this version I have require a real MSX? Is there an easier to use translation out there? HELP, I love this game!

It seems your browser had a bit of problems as well as this question was posted twice. I'll just answer in this thread.

No, it doesn't require a real MSX. I already had it running quite fine on openMSX. Even though there is no MAC version of openMSX yet, somebody is working on a (stable) port for it and AFAIK there are very few MSX emulators for MAC available.

There are no other translations of Snatcher either in progress or finished... at least not one that was made public. |

Thanks for responding. Turns out the game wont run on fMSX on MAC I guess. Got it to run on a PC, but its incredibly slow. Any way to remedy this? Sorry, but I'm totally new to the MSX.

That depends on the configuration of your pc and which (version of which) MSX emulator you're using.

Oh sorry. I got it running on Windows '98 with NLMSX v0.48. Not sure how my PC is configured to answer that part of your question, but its a PII 450mHz Dell Dimension. I haven't changed any settings in the NLMSX software or anything. |

This sounds really strange, but I suggest you downgrade the NLMSX version. Especially since the MSX turbo R emulation was added some of the overall speed was decreased. It needs simply a faster pc to run on correct speed. The other way is to get a faster pc, but that costs (much) more compared to a downgrade of the emulator. You might want to try the last version without the MSX turbo R emulation. Version 0.42 is the last version without turbo R emulation. You can download it from the NLMSX download archive. |

Actually, a PII-450 might *just* be enough. Take care of a number of things:
1) Make sure you emulate an MSX2, not a Turbo-R
Edit -> Configurations -> _Default -> MSX2 Japanese -> Run this Configuration
2) Enable scanlines (if still too slow) and/or set frameskipping
File -> Preferences -> Enable Scanlines -> Frameskipping: 2 Frames
And that should just about do it. If it's still too slow, you can try and increase frameskipping even further. a PII-450 should run it tho...
Good Luck |

Ehm, I think we have openMSX running on Mac OS X for quite some time already. It just needs some knowledge on compiling...
There are at least 2 ports of fMSX for Mac and also Zodiac is available for it. |
