The first one was Knightmare on my MSX1 Sony HB501F (with the nice little joypad on the keyboard). I'll never forget this day. I've played hours and hours. Total pleasure. My parents became furious... Since this day, I'm a MSX and Konami fan. It was in 1986 and I was 13.

Well, if you look at it from a historical point of view: how else would you control a runner/sportsmen on the screen? I'd say that the current way was the best way back then.. and perhaps even today.

Yup, I totally agree w/ wolf. I still like these 'sports'-games. IMO those games rule
Have seen some newer ones, but there you have to press buttons in a certain order to gain e.g. speed... those are too lame

IMO, the best way to control a runner is with motion capture on a tredmill.
Though jumping would be a problem... hmz

Topple Zip: just fly .. I never used my manual anyway.. since the 'cartoon versions' of the objects/enemies really don't match the sprites on the screen

There's a few things to remember:

In the pills: there's a yellowish/white item, try to get that one always.. it's a weapen that kills your enemies with a single blast.

Try to pickup a radar item .. (looks like some antenna) .. that'll show you the destinations of the tunnels on your radar-screen.

level 1,2,3,4 are 'earth' levels, 5 and beyond are 'space' levels. Try to get to level 8, somehow you can finish the game there.. the 2 times I finished the game I sortof didn't know how I did it I prolly picked-up some special item, or flew through a special tunnel or so ..

For the rest, just experiment with the game, in a short while you know all the items. Graphically one of the better msx1 games imho..!

I own the MSX2 version, never finished it ^^;
It's slow and euh... while kinda fun, the point of the game is really unclear.

My own first MSX game was "Topologie Europa" - it came
with the MSX I bought...

Topologie? You must be some mathematician!

ANyway, the first games I have played will have been "Winter Olympics" (my dad got it with his VG8020) and the frogger like game on the demo tape (6 in one) that also came with the 8020. After that, I got some tape from my cousin with some other games on it. I only remember Polar Star being on it, at the moment.

Then my father bought MCM 14 and typed in Jake in the Caves. Played that a lot! So, this was all around 1987 or so. (Check MCM 14 for the date

My first cart was Usas, which I bought much later, in 1993 or 1994 on the Tilburg MSX fair. I also bought Metal Gear there.

Computer Scientist, actually. But math is only theoretical CompSci or
CompSci is applied math, depending on your favorite point of view

My first Cartridge btw was Salamander.

Konami's Ping Pong. Still the best tabletennis game ever.

Spot on!

I only remember my first MSX-2 Games: Usas & Metal Gear!

But the games we played in the mid 80's were River Raid, H.E.R.O, Pitfall, Punchy, Buck Rogers, Beamrider, Norseman. Then, I advanced to MoG, Xanadu, Nemesis II, Salamander,...

Ah, it's amazing... The demon of MoG's World 8 still gives me more creeps than the deepest Unreal II Dungeons. What a gameplay!!
