Hi,
I use a Avermedia TV BOX 3 which has a s-vhs input, i use this one with my Turbo-R and a 15inch CRT Philips monitor, the quality is very nice so the avermedia TV BOX 3 is designed to use with TFT monitor, i think the quality must be better. The avermedia cost about 100€, I think is a good solution.
Sorry for my poor english

I tried both MSX2+ (A1WSX) and TurboR (A1GT) with S-video input on Asus 8200 (GeForce 3 Ti200), it was quite disappointing even at low resolution (40 characters per line). The image on regular TV with S-Video input is so much better.
I assume some video-in chips are better then other on PC, but in general it looks like the ultimate solution is a nice flat screen 19" CRT and XRGB[2[+]]
PS: same S-Video input provides outstandingly sharp picture with input from Playstation, Super Nintendo or 3DO F10 consoles... It's probably something about sync signal fronts or voltage or other electric stuff...

Did anyone actually had any experience with the LCD monitors with built-in TV?
I suspect they should be able to "chew" RGB out from MSX as long as H and V sync signals are properly separated (with a small chip, see gamesx.com for detailed info)
Plus I hope they have good quality from S-Video input (for MSX2+ and TurboR machines).
I personally consider this one, but I would like to hear from someone with experience firts: link

Yeah, this Sharp LCD TV monitor is sweet, but is not cheap... Anyways, I think that nothing will beat a nice 22 inch Viewsonic P220f with XRGB2+ for MSXing |

Dude! You're willing to pay $800 for a monitor for your MSX and didn't want to spend $50 on an upscan convertor to use your GFX9000? That's bit odd Alright, try and spend 'only' $750 on your monitor and buy a good upscan convertor... The GFX9000 is a phunny thing to own, I'm sure that *eventually* you'll see some more demos for it. |

Well, if I was going for a LCD TV monitor, I would be able to use it with both normal and GFX9000 RGB out. But I don't like how LCD monitors show non-native resolutions...
This is why I ordered XRGB2+ |

Hi JP,
I'm afraid it's not a simple thing to do, because your NMS-8250 doesn't have S-Video circuit in it. There are generic transcoders that take RGB input and out separate chroma and lumina (this is what S-Video is).
I yould recommend you to use RGB. It's better then S-Video, and may be you can find a TV with SCART in South Africa...
I use S-Video only because my TV doesn't accept RGB (no SCART), but does support S-Video, and my TurboR GT and MSX2+ A1 WSX have S-Video out. If I had an RGB option, I would go for it. In fact I ordered XGRB2+ to hook-up MSX to PC SVGA monitor |

Did anyone consider trying out an Amiga scan-doubler? They're quite easy to find...

Amiga scandoublers was hot then typical VGA display was 14" with .38 dot pitch... They just aren't good nowdays. And they are still priced at 50$-100$
XRGB2+ is 180$, but it a damn fine RGB upscan converter. |
