Did you receive it already? I'm very curious about the image quality

Nah, some ordering issue... Lik-sang asked me to reorder... Weird.

I bought the "multi-purposed VGA box" by a company called "May-Flash" from Lik-Sang. I connected it to a variety of VGA CRT monitors (a 14", a 15" and a 17" ), using both composite video and S-VHS (using a EuroSCART to S-VHS converter). Regardless of which connection/monitor combination I use, the image quality is poor. 40 columns text mode is readable, but there's a noticeable blur in the text. 80 columns text mode is nearly unreadable. I guess it's OK for games though. I don't think it's worth the 69 euros (includes shipping/handling).

Compared with the image quality I get on an RGB monitor using just a SCART cable, the performance of this box is very bad indeed. I e-mailed the Lik-Sang customer department, and they claim it's impossible to get a better image. Does anybody here know any scan-doublers that do produce decent quality (i.e. at least as good as an RGB monitor)? I'd really like to switch to a scan-doubler / VGA CRT combination since the high-pitched beep of my RGB monitor is driving me crazy

Well, supposedly XRGB2+ is the kind of the hill. I took the bait, so just wait a little until I'll get my hand on it...

Well, I've seen scan-doublers that do an excellent job. The only common complaint I've heard is that they 'harden' the image too much. That ofcourse is not the fault of the scandoubler. It just means it's doing an excellent job... So, don't take any crap, it is possible to have an excellent image quality with a scan-doubler...

Yeah blah, this XRGB2+ thing have a scanline option, which will smooth your hardened giant square pixels

Eventually I want to get a big ass 22" flat screen professional CRT monitor (Viewsonic P220f). I guess each MSX pixel will be over a mm then

Does anybody in The Netherlands know where you can buy the XRGB2+ "off the shelf" in a shop? I'm kinda pissed off with Lik-Sang for not wanting to take back the product, even if I want to exchange it for the XRGB2+, so I'd rather take my chances in a 'real' shop.

Doubt it. But you can try another online traider, like Play Asia or National Console Support. One thing for sure: not a single shady dealer will accept goods back.

I simply bought a S-Video to VGA adapter for 70Euro's. Ok, it is not the best quality but it's cheap, it's easy to connect, and I can switch between PC/ MSX with a press of a button

Image quality is better then with S-Video in on PC video card, but still sucks. It's because at the moment I use S-Video, and not the RGB input. With S-Video it all looks kind of blurry, just like on TV. But mode 80 is readable and in games this blurrines is only for the best.

I should build an RGB cable. As soon as I make one, then it will be about serious quality

Have you managed to build an RGB cable already? I'm really curious about this... I wonder if it's worth swapping my DISPL for the XRGB2++
