Hi.
Recently I played both the NES and MSX versions of Hydlide for a comparison. I've beaten the NES version, but the MSX version has me stuck. My question is this: How do I get the last fairy? In the NES version, you had to hit both wizards with one spell, but the MSX version seems to not have a spell system (or if it does, it must not be an awfully intuitive one).
Any help will be appreciated. My E-Mail Address is nes_star@hotmail.com |

Never mind my last post... I figured it out thirty minutes after posting it. However now I have another question, this time regardling Hydlide II: Shine of Darkness (Japanese version. I've heard that an English version is now available however).
My problem is this: I keep trying to create a character and start the game, however the game seems bent on not saving my character... I've created one at least thirty times, but every time I go to "Start Game" (or anything else that brings up a name list) it just displays the word "Nothing!" Is there something wrong with my game, or am I doing something wrong?

It seems that you are using an emulator, the original cartridge has sram on it where it saves the character data in. Which emulator are you using? |

It seems in the MSX Version all you have to do is keep killing the wizards until one of them drops the fairy.

I'm using RuMSX.
*Sigh* I wish someone would translate those recently released Windows versions of Hydlides 1-3. |

You should try blueMSX that has an user-friendly interface (like RuMSX), but also an improved SRAM support

Thanks. BlueMSX works SO much better. So far I'm enjoying Hydlide II despite the language barrier.

Is there any Japanese members here?
I would love to help translating games.
I mean if I get translations of texts, I can try to do hacks to put translation in binaries |

There's often a lot more to it than simple 'hacks'. Sometimes (often) text routines have to be replaced, compression routines have to be made (because English translations mostly take more space than the original Japanese texts) and graphics have to be replaced.
And euh, yes, we have quite a few Japanese members, but so far they are not extremely active forum members yet |

I know I'm the most active dick, eh sorry, member in last few days
And don't worry about hardships of translation, I'll see what I can do with static recompilers, interactive dissassemblers and good luck poking
I am particulary interested in getting accurate translation of original japanese Metal Gear (1987). I own original european Metal Gear, but I heard it's a bad trivial translation which doesn't explain too much of the story... |

http://www.msx.org/newspost826.html <- There once was a MG Origin project. All texts in the game had already been re-translated and proofread. Then there was a big silence. The website focuses on .. err... different matters now |

I am sorry, but is just battling the wizards really the soultion to getting the faerie? I butchered a whole lot of them now and still no faerie! T_T

In the MSX version, you get the last fairy after beating Varalys, if I'm correct. Kill the dragon, enter the castle, kill Varalys and tadaa...
@James: the English MSX version of Hydlide 2 is available (including the translated manual) at WOOMB: Hydlide 2 English. |

Ah, I see that the original posts are already from 2004. Never mind...

Thank you for the answer, but I figured it out at last and beat the game. Those old games and their solutions...
For everyone still wondering:
You have to be hit 5 times by the Wizard's Fireball without leaving the screen and then you can kill him and the fairy comes out. ^^
