Hello! I've been trying to load some games directly form CD with the MEGASCSI interface (and using the msxcdex.com) but the same error message always appears: DISK WRITE PROTECTED, and I cannot load anything. And when I try to copy from the CD to the ZIP or HD, the MultiMente keeps blocked.
Anyone know how to make the Cd work correctly??
thanks!!!

Hmmmzz... Do you have enough RAM available? Do the games need MSX-DOS1 or MSX-DOS2? What computer are you working with, probably a Turbo R? Do the games - by any chance - write some data to disk? Please, be more specific in your context |

AFAIK you shouldn't use MultiMente with a CDD... I could be wrong perhaps, because accessing files is easy (I use the Sunrise ATA-IDE with a Hitachi 8x CDD).
So if you want to copy stuff from CDD to HDD or something, go to DOS ('Q'). Then say
COPY D:*.* C: , where D is your CDD-letter and C the HDD-letter. Good luck |

Multimente should work. Did you try a different CD?

hello!!
Yes, I've tryed with a TurboR, and the games were .dsk files (the typical msx2 games, not a rare one), and I think that the ones I tested didn't have the save option to write to disk as you mention... but I have not tryed another CD. Maybe it has something wrong?? But it is hard to believe...
I also have an IDE interface with CD and HD and I load and copy via the CD without any problem (with Multimente)... But as you all know, the IDE interface doesn't have a "very good" program to load .dsk as EP for MEGASCASI. That's why I want to solve my problem...
thanks!!

Are you trying to use EP on CD? Or just copying DSKs to HDD, and then use EP?
Bare in mind you can't use EP on a CD drive.

The EP is on the SRAM of the MEGASCSI, and I load from CD (I try to). And If the CD let me copy to the HD, the .dsk files will work fine (loading from HD or ZIP is OK), but it seems the CD or the MSXCDEX.COM wants to make me crazy!!

That is what I wanted to mean. You can't load/execute DSK images from CD using EP. If my memory serves me well, EP needs to modify partition table in order to execute a DSK, and that can't be made on a CD.
(Perhaps that's why you get a DISK WRITE PROTECTED error)

mmmmm.... Guillian, maybe you're right about EP. But then, the other problem that doesn't let me to copy anything to the HD??

Yeah... Strange issue! Well, have you tried copying the files in DOS? If that doesn't work, it's probably something in the SCSI CDD which isn't working properly. I mean, if your IDE works well and the SCSI doesn't (if you've tested it with the same CD)... It's obvious I think.

it probably means EP tries to open the .dsk files for input AND output, which results in a nice error...

I will try to copy without using multimente, then. Let's see what happens. And the CD used for the IDE interface is different from the one that "doesn't work" (different cable connections)
thanks!! I will tell you all if copying through DOS2 works

well. I tryed to copy form the SCSI CD to the ZIP via DOS2 and the "DISK ERROR" message appeared. So... I was totally desperate and I put the IDE interface with the CD and HD in SLOT 1 and the MEGA SCSI interface with the Zip unit in the SLOT 2. I turned on the F700 (I have tested it on it) and first, the IDE interface seemed to load the autoexec and it run the Multimente. Well, I pressed "2" and the other partion of the IDE HD was shown, the "3" and another one, "4" and the IDE CD loaded the CD inside.... and then I pressed "4" and appeared the SRAM of the MEGASCSI!!!!! and on "5" unit there was the ZIP!! So I finally had a CD rom to copy to the zip....
I take out the IDE interface, and turn on the F700, and all obviously is written on the Zip unit ready to be loaded. But just one thing: When I turn the computer one with the two interfaces (IDE + SCSI) in the slots and I DON'T turn the power of the IDE CD and HD on, the MEGASCSI is loaded and I can work with it. But if I do the same but with one game in the "memory" of the MEGASCSI (a game that is loaded everytime te MSX is turned on) this message is shown on the screen: "OUT OF MEMORY". Any idea???
thanks!!!! |

Have you checked you SCSI IDs? Do you use a terminator? In case you use the one in the ZIP, have you enabled it?
My suggestion is to connect MegaSCSI -> CDD (terminator OFF) -> ZIP (Terminator ON)
The "out of memory" error is "normal", so don't care about it. Probably it is due to the game loaded in MegaSCSI, that waits the disk ROM to be initialized (so the IDE interface does it too) and there is a low TPA, that is not enough memory to run the game.
