As blueMSX does not support yet Turbo-R with the MSX-DOS2.3 rom inside, only MSX-DOS2.2 can be used with blueMSX, exactly as you have described. You can also use a MSX2+ config.
The MSX-DOS 2.2 rom must have a size of 64kb (Versions with 4 roms of 16kb were conceived for the CJS emulator)
Don't use a version 2.1, it contains bugs.
To be complete, there are 2 versions of the MSX-DOS2.2 rom :
- the original version, only sold in Japan, contains a Memory mapper of 128KB (or ? 256 Kb), because most of Japanese MSX2/2+ machines have only 64 KB RAM
- the modified version, only sold in Europe, doesn't contain this Memory mapper, because most of European MSX2 machines have a Memory Mapper of 128 Kb.
Both versions work in blueMSX, but there's no support for the Memory mapper of the original version (it's not really necessary because the default configs have a memory mapper of 256 kb)
The only problem seems to be that we have forgotten to include the crc codes of the roms in the intern rom database.
You have two solutions :
- use the extern rom database
- use the machine editor to create a MSX2/2+ with MSX-DOS2.2
In both cases, the rom type is MSX-DOS 2 and for more explanations, read the help file

Hey Mars,
I tried both solutions but they won't work
Trying to put the 2.2. version of the DOS2 rom file(s) in in slot 1 and 2 didn't work.
Also I tried to put the same rom file(s) by using the machine editor.
I write files, because I tried the rom files that van be found on the FUnet site.

The MSX-DOS 2.2 kernel is 64KB mapped. There are two versions of MSX-DOS 2.2 when it comes to mapping systems, but one of them (released outside of Japan, afaik Europe only) uses ASCII 16KB type of mapper.

Sorry, but these solutions work, I've checked before posting my message
Just 2 precisions :
- if you use the solution "Machine editor", you must first eject the rom that was inserted in slot 1 (or 2) by using the menu File --- otherwise, blueMSX will use this rom (that is not detected by the intern rom database) in place of the rom in the config that you have created with MSXDOS2.2 in slot 1
- if you use the solution "external rom database", the rom type is msxdos2 (no big letters, no space between msx and dos or between dos and 2 ---- sorry for the error, but all is clearly explained in the help file AND in the rom database file)
For more help (if these explanations don't resolve your problem), I suggest that you use the blueMSX forum : http://www.gamers-jp.com/blueMSX/bbs/ |

Okay, I found the sollution already.
The problem was that when I saved the config the rom type changed into mirrord.
I had to change it back to MSXdos2 and save it again.
Now it works cheers!

Yes, that's a little imperfection of blueMSX, the best is to select the rom type just before saving the config .... but it's a little source of confusion, because rom type is the first item in the editing menu .... maybe should we change that !

Yep, that one. But also the MK one, and the MCWF one (both internal and external) and probably some other variants I failed to list here. |

But only the ASCII one is real, am I right? I suddenly recall I have a MK DOS2 cart as well...

IIRC people have been investigating that and it seems HSH did have a license for European release. I'm not sure whether that license included changing the bankswitch address to one that's easier to make using logic circuits.

IIRC it turned out HSH did not have a license afterall, they only claimed to have one.

bIFI , do you remember that I gave you the exact number and pages as regards the HSH interface in which someone on behalf of ASCII faxed a letter to MCM that HSH was legal!
