| As Daniel said, it would require at least a 7Mhz MSX or a MSXturboR to run at a decent speed without rewriting the entire game.
|
Well, 7 MHz perhaps is too much. What about 6 MHz?
At the moment I have some Z80B chips ready-to-go. You should replace the original Z80A by this little wonder and change the clock. Here you are: a MSX/MSX2/MSX2+ running at 6 MHz.
I you want one of these Z80B CPUs, let me know your offers!

Isn't A1 Spirit kind of a multiplayer roadfighter?

I thought it was just a special version, with some special vehicles in it ... different sprites?
More like 'unidentified flying just above the road objects' instead of cars??? Help me on this one...

A1 Spirit is just a patched version of F1 spirit: different "cars" (they are spaceships), different sprites and more speedy vehicles.
But Konami also produced a net-play version of Road Fighter. It was discussed some time ago in MRC forum, if I remember correctly. It was for that japanese modem network, and in the screenshots everything reminds to Road Fighter
And yes, the name is A1 Grand Prix.

The bad part, even if it is multiplayer, it requires some kind of modem-based network service, so no play over joynet |

I'm going to convert Chase HQ to WAV (and then to CAS).
At what freq. should I record the tape (PCM, 48000 KHz, 8Bit, mono, 46 kb/s)?

In the MSXCAS2files is Formato Wav / 22050 Hz / 16 bits con signo, but I DON'T know if it is the same with CASTOOLS. Unfortunately, the CASTOOLS readme don't say anything about this. You'll made some tests.
See this website indeed: http://amgomez.eresmas.net/Paso_a_paso_cintas.htm or msxtape.tk
Yours,

I think this format PCM, 48000 KHz, 8Bit, mono, 46 kb/s will work.
A stupid question... if you make a direct copy (tape 2 tape), this copy will work in a cassete reader?

If the sound is clean enough, it will work fine, of course. Anyway, it is strongly advisable to make digital copies, because noise is eliminated.
By the way, I think that the frequency is 44100 Hz and not 48000 Hz.

Any pcm .wav should work, but I recommend recording them at the highest possible sample rate, 8bits and mono. If the provided .wav is 16 bits it will be converted to 8 bits, and stereo signals are converted to mono (hence it's better sample it at 8bits mono in the first place). When you record the tape, record it as loud as possible but don't let the signal clip, if the signal is distorted conversion is likely to fail! |

Unless your PC is still using original Sound Blaster from 1990, I don't think 16 bit samples will be converted to 8-bit. Why would they?
A different matter is that discretion levels, provided by 8-bits, are more then enough for MSX/ZX Spectrum cassette input needs.
But if you plan to burn WAVs to CD-R, it doesn't really matter if it's 8-bit or 16-bit, since it will take just as much space (depending on play time).

The pc sound card won't convert it, but the castools software will before it starts analyzing the data. If the input data is already in that format this conversion is skipped which will give better results. |
