If you want to localize your BIOS, you can probably disassemble some other ROM and rip ready made code, but note, that all the keys may not be physically in same place. To take a look at your BIOS, I recommend you to use SUPER-X. It is simply the best MSX program for this purpose. ~NYYRIKKI

Philip - releasing a patch instead of a ROM file makes your part of the deal as legal as can be. Creating a patch out of it isn't that hard, so I'd continue spreading patches instead of ROM images from now on if I were you. Just in case |

The print using functions are all done.
I am looking at patch software, but it seems there isn't any decent patching software that can patch binary files in at least linux and windows. I guess I am going have to write something myself.

Funet has a few programs if I'm not mistaken... Just look around on there... If you really can't find anything suitable I could make a small patch program for the MSX I guess... Look on funet first if you'd please... if not I could make up something... I would need both sets of ROM images though...

If you are referring to the translate tools, these seem to work on disk(images) only. Tried to make a patch for the alternative version of Usas with it back then but that didn't work out very well. In stead I used some binary compare to find out which bytes differ, make a 'string' of (almost) directly concatenated offsets, put it in a file with some destination data and write a patch tool writing the patch data to the file. It isn't that hard once you got the hang of the system.

Isn't IPS the standard for patching rom images?

Had a look into IPS and its format... It's a quite nice system.

I can't find any info there on the IPS format, if that's what you're referring to.

A small update again. This time the keyboard layout of the kanji mode is changed.
nlmsx:
www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/msxtr.ips
www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/msxkanji.ips
openMSX:
www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/fs-a1gt_firmware.ips
However, no font changes, no dead, graph and code keys because:
- I'm to lazy to disassemble the entire kanji rom
- There is no documentation about the kanji rom (some sort of red book for the turbo R would be great)
- A kanji font without the yen sign is actually pretty silly
But at least you can now type _ank the exit the kanji mode.
There is a workaround to use the normal font in the bios in kanji mode:
In openmsx delete or comment out the <device id="Kanji ROM"> stuff.
In nlmsx delete or rename KANJI.ROM |
