Help with 1mb upgrade for Philips NMS 8250

UnregisteredGeplaatst: 07 Juni 2004, 23:48
Hellos, I have a NMS 8250 MSX2, and i want to upgrade it to a 1mb PC simm memory, I have the PDF that explains how to do, but my english is not very good and the photos that came in are a VERY LOW resolution... Can somebody send me a best quality photos so i can do the hack better , with my understanding of the document? Thanks!

By the way, there are some technicisms on the doc that i can't resolve, by ex. :

74LS08 : cut the pins 1 t/m 6 and 8 t/m 13 half <- What is cutting the pins t/m? can be To Middle? then why is at the end of the phrase "half"?

Pleez if someone can help me, i will thank A LOT!

Thanks 4 reading & bye(sorry for my bad English!)

"tot en met", if you're not Dutch, it means "up to (and including)". So you'd cut the pins 1 up to and including 6 and 8 up to and including 13. "Half" means "to middle", if you'd like to call it that way. I presume a fellow Dutchman made that manual...

AH! Ok, Thanks a lot!!!! Yes, i have found the dutch PDF that explains the same, and it appears also the same letter sequence(t/m), so i guess it was a not very good translation of the document... well, the photos that are inside aren't too much defined, so if anyone can send me a better photos, it will be VERY NICE to see them! (and that will help me A LOT)

Well, some more question: I have a (24W) JBC 30S soldering pen, is it too much volts to doing the soldering work? or I can make a toast with the mother board if i use this?

Again, THANKS A LOT(& sorry for the bad English, I'm Spanish 8-P )

24 watts is quite too much, to be honest, a 12 to 15 watts would do the trick. But of course, that depends on what you want to solder on. Anyway, some people even manage to do that with a 40 watts pen, but I wouldn't rely on that.

professionals use are 30W and 40W (20W for some fragile surface IC), i personally got a 40W and can solder all.

The secret is not how much is the W, the secret is how much time!

for me 1 second is very enought for me. But amateur and newbie ppl, need more like 5 seg.

Professionals not use 15 or 20W because that need more time to melt the tin

I have three JBC soldering and one desoldering station, all 50 watt and the desoldering is 70 watt.
The tempeture is very important.
Very important is also to use a station in place of a normal solder iron.

Actually, you can do a lot with just tips too... I used to experiment with different types, not all will heat-up equally using the same iron. I guess the material and size will have a significant impact on how well you can solder and how hot the tip will get. Ofcourse you're talking to a man that recently butchered his Turbo-R with a 50W soldering iron with a tip the size of your fist It still did the trick nicely though, and my Turbo miraculously survived...

Yes, putting an A1ST, or worse, an A1GT in such trouble deserves the death penalty
