Is there a converter or any way to convert a mid or mod music to msx audio/mbm file?

midi: would be possible in theory if the midi-song matches the mbm limits
mod: naa.. no mod is at least 4-channel sample-based music.. mbm is FM-based music with only 1 sample-channel.
iirc there's a mod player/editor for turbo-R tho.. |

Yeah, Xelasoft made it... Really cool... Just the mere fact that he was able to do this astounded me. Apart from that it plays a lot of MODs perfectly. I think he managed to get it up to around 10 or 11kHz. Not bad for a 7MHz cpu...
Later someone also made a MOD player for the MoonSound, but that achievements ofcourse doesn't compare to what Alex did. It's also pretty much useless unless you have at least 512kB sample RAM in your MoonSound. It just dumps the sample in Sample RAM and then does the tracking accodingly, pretty much like the Amiga originally did. The cool part ofcourse is that you can use this as a TSR due to the low cpu load.
MIDI is indeed possible, but would require some work I guess. If not you can always play the song on your PC and 'sample' it via a MIDI interface on the MSX. A converter wouldn't be that difficult, it would just be a lot of work. Basically you'd have to analize both file formats and convert accordingly. MBM was pretty well document, MIDI too I guess, though not everything is supported by MBM I think. Apart from that, things like detune and pitch-bend will prolly cause a few head-aches...

IIRC there's also a mod-player for MSX for Moonsound, made by Moonsoft.

Yup, stimmt. Check Sunrise Picture Disk #16B or #17B. N.O.P. also made a MOD player, which is to be found on the very same disk. |

When are we FINALLY going to get S3M and XM players for Moonsound? |

should be easy enough with a moonsound... you would need at least 512kB sample RAM though... I think both mod types will play just fine on 24 channels...

In some cases mbwave is more advanced than screamtracker 3 .. (hardware envelopes/LFOs etc.) I don't think I'd use ST3 again ..

Yeah... The moonsound really isn't bad at all... Had they made it 512kB when it was released it would have made for an excellent music standard back then. Ofcourse the SRAM was still way to expensive at that time, I guess. I guess the only downside to a MoonSound is that you can't dynamically play samples on it for SFX. That would have been even cooler...

I wonder if it would be possible for some hardware freak to make an expander-cartridge for the moonsound.. an expander that gives you extra ROM and RAM .. and perhaps a little DSP device for reverb etc. ..
