And then again, SVI-728 was said to be MSX-compatible, not MSX (like the VG8000 or so from Philips)... IIRC
I dunno about the 738, but I assume it's also MSX- compatible-. But as said, I could be wrong |

Does that mean I should disqualify the Spectravideo? |

Spectravideo 7xx series are full MSX compatible. (Like every MSX computer)
There should be no distinction between 'MSX' and 'MSX compatible'.
You are probably confused with the Spectravideo 3xx series, which is like a 99% MSX
I don't know what you mean with the VG8000 comment, as AFAIK it conforms to the MSX standard perfectly. |

No, SVI-318 and SVI-328 are NOT MSX compatible (although not that far away)
SVI-728 and SVI-738 are MSX computers.
<personal opinion>
I can't stand who really thinks SVI machines are the best? They have horrible sound, bad picture, casing tends to turn yellow, SVI-738 has bad disk ROM, diskdrive fries every disk, you forget in and the keys (especially cursor keys) are not too nice on either models. (Ok, I know... Some people seem to like those keyboards for some unknown reason)
Only nice things that I see are, that SVI-738 has RS-232 (with non standard connector, but nice RS-ROM) and V9938 (but it is still not MSX2) I can recommend this computer only to people, who like to play with hardware.

| The design of Yamaha MSX computers is about the same for most of it's variations, so nominating one Yamaha is enough :-)
|
In that case suggest nominating only one Panasonic and one Sony as well. The Yamaha SX-100 and Yamaha CX5M are two very diffeent computers. Maybe you are thinking of the similarity between CX5M and CX7M.

As said, I didn't know it all very well, but I only thought the 7xx series were 99% MSX, just like the VG8000... But according to you that is not the case. Well... Maybe I should go back and study MSX historics or something similar |

Which was the Sony with the funky little joystick-thing-cursor-thingy and the internal datarecorder?

Several Sony MSX1 models had the joystick-thing-cursor-thingy, but the one with the internal datarecorder is the HB-501. |

Well, they made a few nice computers. Too bad they didn't modify the existing design at least a little for the Turbo-R. I guess those molds are still expensive these days... I personally loved the Sony 2+ which was kinda sexy. I still remember the ads in the MCM for the HB-F1XDJ... Wow, all that 'power' for only Fl 1495 was it? |

This Spectravideo SVI-728 and Hitachi MB-H50 look like computers on which it's very hard to play games using the cursor keys... Has anyone experience with that? And the ML-TS2 is very weird indeed! In what way are the phone and the MSX integrated? Does anybody know? Seeing those strange machines makes me very curious |

AFAIK, the VG-8000 is also fully MSX compatible. The only problem is that it has only 16kB RAM. But still a valid amount to be a real MSX. The VG-8010 is exactly the same, but has 16kB extra RAM, making a total of 32k. |
