yeah... there are so much good games on other 8-bit computers just crying to get remaked for msx-1 !

Here are great games!

* TOY BIZARRE (Activision 1984) great single screen platform jumper!

* UP ´N´ DOWN (Sega ´83 or ´84) You drive car on a narrow road and collect flags and wreck other cars by jumping

hello again... guests arrived before I finished previous text... so now I continue...

two previous games and next ones I have played and enjoyed on commodore 64 when I was kid.

* FRED (Indescomp ´84) also on spectrum and amstrad, man with pistol wanders in tombs collecting treasures and searching exit door. Characters are big and funny looking, especially ghosts who have very big nose! Watch out for skeletons and mummies too!

* GHOSTS ´N´ GOBLINS (elite / capcom) Horizontally scrolling game. winged creature steals princess and knight must rescue her of course. You are armed with endless spears and can collect various weapons along the way. Game starts from cemetary where zombies get up from their graves through the ground... c64 version had really atmospheric theme tune, but amiga version had different tune which was not so catchy at all... MSX has only one this style game, "demonia" from microids... but forget it... demonia has colourful graphics thought, but is hellishly difficult to play and can´t compared to ghosts´n´goblins...

* SKRAMBLE I haven´t seen ANY good skrambles on msx... aackosoft/livewire´s skramble sucks big time... and Konami´s Super Cobra is lil better but not very good for long play.... PLLLEEEEEAAASEEEE make colourful skramble for msx-1 !!!! It can´t be too difficult to make at least 2-coloured missiles and spaceships to make good msx-skramble!!!

* WIZARD OF WOR (Bally Midway (´81 or ´82) was manufacturer of original arcade game) C64 version is almost identical to arcade version, and msx-1 version CAN´T BE too difficult to translate!!! CHECK THIS GAME OUT!!! You are spacesuited soldier in arena (pacman like maze) which is infested by horrible creatures whose are trying to kill you of course, and they can shoot back too... there is threatening sound in the background... your only way to survive is shoot every creature in every arena and just like in space invaders, every time you shoot alien, others get more speedy... and at last you must confront the wizard of wor... (there are many of them to kill in this game...) game idea and graphics are really simple but if you haven´t never played this game, I warn you: GAME IS DANGEROUSLY ADDICTIVE !!! (I know that... I was Wizard of Wor addict...)

* Eddie Kidd´s Jump Challenge (Martech ´85) yes.. the game was published on msx too... but check out c64 version which has BIG sprites! Bike and rider are really good animated on c64 and so the feeling is completely different compared msx/spectrum version.... of course it can be hard to use sprites on msx-1 but why not use user defined characters too with sprites to make biker and bike!

* MR. ROBOT AND HIS ROBOT FACTORY (Datamost inc. 1984)
great single screen platform game. walk over all "power dots" on platforms dodging nasty faced fireballs .. there are nice ideas such as trampolines, and up and down going conveyour belts (you can find screenshots in www.lemon64.com) and many BOMBS ! you can use bombs as walking platform of course, but they activate when you step on them, so don´t hang around too long... if I am not wrong, there are 100 levels and what is really nice... level editor which is really simple to use!!! 2:-)

download all these games for c64 emulator and you see why I like to see them converted to msx-1 !!! All those games are not too difficult to make colourful remakes with colourful sprites!! (ok, maybe eddie kidd . ..)

I think msx-1 needs GOOD driving game!!! I don´t know any really good Sega´s "Outrun" style drive as fast as you can driving game which has great soundtrack too! Hyper Rally is not good enough, I think. And msx-1 Outrun... music is only great thing in it.

Are there any good outrun style games on msx-2? except pony canyon´s outrun?

Wec Le Mans on MSX 1 is pretty good if you don't mind the 2 color GFX

You could try Greatest Driver and F1-Spirit 3D (MSX2+)

thanks, I bought WEC in the eighties and was disappointed with it, I thought it could be better somehow... thought it was nice to drive, but only for short time... thought graphics were ok, as monochrome spectrum graphics.

I have never heard of Greatest Driver. :/ I hope I can download it from somewhere..?

Is that really true that there is not ANY outrun style car racing game for msx-1 ? Electric Software´s Le Mans 1 & 2 are not too speedy!

I like to get that "open road and tank full of gas" feeling !! <3
I wanna be SPEED CRAZY !!!!!!

(of course you can try the same with real car, but you don´t die or kill others in computer screen)

If there is not any game like that, then it is time to make one !!! Open road, different scenery on each level / road, sunset and sunrise, many different looking approaching cars, signs on the edge of the road, tunnels maybe, gas stations...!

Hmmm.... Please check these 2 commodore 64 games....

* BUGGY BOY if this game is not worth to convert for msx-1 or msx-2 or hopefully both, then what game is ? If you like fast racing games where your car is seen behind and like fast action, then don´t wait but download this fantastic game to c64 emulator! There is time limit, flags to collect, fences and walls on the road, you can off road too if you want, just steer to the hill on the side of the road, narrow bridges WITHOUT fences (SPLASH!! facility), drive your car to stump to jump over walls, drive inside a tunnel, etc... it´s all in the same game!!!

* Great American Cross-Country Road Race (Activision 1985)
Title says the game idea very well... game has sunset, night, sunrise, and day- effects! Snowy roads, etc... and you always must check how much fuel you have left... if the gas tank is empty, it´s not game over, but you must push your car to the nearest gas station... There are several gas stations on each road, you just have to slow down in time.

There was more game ideas for you to convert to msx!

oh, and this oldie too:

* MINER 2049´ER walk over platforms to change colour of the floor type game, simple looking game with only 8 levels, but game play is great! (on 64 at least) If you want to make game which is SIMPLE to program AND interesting to play, then convert this! ps. there is follow up for this game called BOYNTY BOB STRIKES BACK

I tested MINER 2049´ER on colecovision emulator but it was hard to control the hero, because his every step was 8 pixels long...

Personally I think you're wrong... the best driving games on the MSX system are MSX-1 games. F1-Spirit, Road Fighter and Hyper Rally are simply great...Coaster Race is quite funny, Crazy Cars isn't that bad, and the same goes for Chase H.Q. and Wec Lemans (although it's a pity the compatibility problems).

About F1-Spirit 3D and OutRun (MSX2)... both of them should have been done much better...

About another game genre... I've always missed a good MSX2 (or upper) soccer game...

Are there any ChoroQ remakes out there ? That''d be fun although not the 'speedfreak' type of car-racing I suppose

With "outrun style game" I meant car game where you can see car behind, like in outrun, hyper rally and wec le mans, but except monstrous outrun, there is not soundtrack in those games when you are driving.

of course those konami games are great... but think about the fact how good game you can get if you make somekindof Hyper Rally 2 or something, added with nice soundtrack and with those features I listed on my previous message!

And in WEC le mans you just drive around the same road... in outrun there is LONG way to go and roads to select which way to go,

in hyper rally there are nothing in scenery but the grass, snow and sand and sky and sometimes mountain in the horizon. (and that tunnel in tunnel level of course) compare that to outrun´s background, which varies on every road!!!

Hope you get my point! I don´t mean to blame old good games! I just hope someone could program THE ULTIMATE driving games! 2:-9 If they have such games on other computer systems, why not msx can have at least one game! I really wish you all check out and play the games I have listed in previous messages!

You're comparing Hyper Rally (MSX1 32Kb rom) with OutRun (MSX2 256Kb rom)...considering this, Hyper Rally is a masterpiece.

I really like the original OutRun, that's why I think they didn't make a good job with the MSX2 conversion (not mentioning the MSX1 conversion... )

Thanks for reply, but I am not comparing Hyper Rally just to MSX2 Outrun, but to Outrun anyway..

MSX2 outrun is very playable thought, but I was disappointed when I played it first time few years ago... MSX2 outrun is the outrun which MSX outrun should have been!!!! it really looks like the msx version, not the msx2 version...

but as you all can see, hyper rally´s scenery is all F-L-A-T ! (except that lonesome mountain in the distant horizon) if there could have been even few trees...

yes, and choro q is nice little platform jumping car game indeed!

About HYPER RALLY being flat, I must say that it is very simple, but not FLAT. Have you seen the tunnel stage? And one of the latest levels, with lightningbolts all over the sky? I didn't believe it, but in the last Barcelona MSX meeting, Jon Cortázar -aka Viejo Archivero- finished the whole game! It was amazing!

By the way, what do you think about Sega's HANG ON for MSX?
