Sound is put through the Y8950 (MSX Audio), COVOX or Turbo R PCM. AFAIK it's 15.75 kHz mono sound. Framerate can be 10 or 12FPS (depends on conversion mode (see the -FPS12 )). Resolution is 128x106 (exactly 1/4 of a normal screen mode). If you want to keep aspect ratio, you might as well want to convert to 128x96. A picture of the COVOX is here:

I took it from some internet site, but I cannot recall which

Furthermore, I've never actually managed to get the V9990 version working in my config, alas. It seems that program has problems reading from CD-ROM, while the V9958 hasn't...?

Oh, and Aurora, V9938 cannot be used, unless you want to have a totally wrecked view on the video .

snout, thanks for the space offer on Bussum 2K4 I really appreciate it . So, legacy, you'll have your EVA show nonetheless...

Now for burning some CDs with EVA movies on them.

COVOX is also known in the MSX scene (due to MCM) as SIMPL.
I actually have a MCWF SIMPL interface, which I think I used euuhh, once...

Ok, now I have to find avi to eva converter which runs on PC of course. But, then, how can I put the produced huge EVA file to my MSX's hard disk? Shall I install it on PC? and what will happen to the partitions in it?
Thanks

I thought there were 2 EVA-projects for MSX. One is indeed Japanese, but it features only black/white movies? The other one is.....South American? That's the one you'll want. I'll check my utils, but I believe I use Avi2Eva.exe to convert AVI-files into EVA-files. Not this japanese util legacy just pointed to.

I think it's time to improve EVA format! I don't know how, but I think EVA is one of the gratest things of MSX system! And I think that a screen 8 version to play videos at 256 colors could be interesting!

I've heard in this forum that someone wants to extract audio routines to make a stand alone player of digital music on MSX (without video). Do you know something about progress of this?

@scratch_disk: Don't EVER try to copy EVA files to HDD. DOS2 won't appreciate it Just burn them on CD, using ISO9660, mode 1, 8.3 filenames (all restrictions on). A CD contains about 1 hour and a half of 12FPS EVA.

@Latok: It's all the same EVA-project. The black-and-white you saw was probably dus to a PAL HBI-V1 interface (custom built), while the EVA recording tools require a MSX Turbo R with HBI-V1 NTSC digitizer and MEGASCSI.

@legacy: Have you also tried EVAWIN04.EXE? It's the genuine EVA replayer for windows. It sucks big time

Well, you mean because of fragmented disk?

Thank MSX Software Team (and me for initiating that idea in BBS-Waterland) for an MSX defragmenter called Improve then...

lol...

@scratch_disk: ATA-IDE transfer speeds are for 3.58MHz, 7.16MHz and R800 respectively 150kB/s, 290kB/s and 300kB/s. So if you want to copy one hour and a half EVA movie to your HDD (about 650MB), I wish you luck!

Furthermore, the bigger the file to be copied is, the longer it will take (duh), but either the IDE or DOS2 can't handle it anymore. The bigger the file is, the slower it will be copied, eventually.
