Well .... you should have read the post of Fish ... he has precised "besides the old MSX emulator from MCCM"

fMSX-DOS is on the MCCM MILLENIUM double CD.

paraMSX is really better (for me, the 4th best MSX emulator for PC) ... you should try it !

openMSX can do it too, but it's only guaranteed to work in LInux

Uhh... Didn't notice that fMSX-DOS was included on the CD. Moveover: I don't think fMSX-DOS can be seen as 'the MCCM-emulator', since that one was MSX4PC... That's indeed a crappy one

fMSX-DOS is still quite elite!

I still wonder which MSX emulator was first? fMSX or the MSX emulator(s) made by Compujunks?

Everybody seems to think fMSX is as the CJS version never got that broad as fMSX I think. My guess is the CJS emulator as well btw.

And what about MSX4PC?

MSX4PC was developed after both emulators IIRC.

Maybe AmiMSX was the first emulator? http://www.arrakis.es/~joanant/amsx.html
I know it's not for x86 based machines, but still It is having it's 10 year birthday this year

The first release of the CJS MSX1 emulator is dated from november 29th 1993.

Indeed
About MSX4PC I can't find anything else, except for the fact that the last version (0.90) was released on December 5th, 1997. Some info: http://web.archive.org/web/20010308231635/http://www.file-hunter.com/
My guess is that indeed CJSMSX wins the "first-MSX-emulator" award

Also an early emulator:

1994: Atari ST MSX Emulator: http://web.archive.org/web/20010308231635/http://www.file-hunter.com/

/edit/
Indeed, fMSX originates form 1994:

from the fMSX-dos Emulator:

fMSX MS-DOS 1.6b2.a
MSX emulator for the MS-DOS platform.
Core emulator code copyright (C) 1994, 1995, 1996 Marat Fayzullin

So, we can quite safely say the CJS MSX emulator is the very first MSX emulator known to exist? I do agree fMSX is the most used for ports due to two reasons:

1. It's written in C
2. The source is available

The CJS MSX emulator is 100% assembly and AFAIK sources weren't available.
