Hi, is version 0.1 the final version? And why I must install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 for it? Maybe you can make the game for normal use, so that users don't have to install Framework first? Is that possible?
Thanx
Greetz, Erik.

gheh, Erik. Welcome to the club.
If I would install any overhead like .net stuff I'd prolly be playing mopi ranger right now... but hey, f** it. not gonna go through all the haste. instead I'll startup my fave msx emu and play the original again just to get the spirit.
henk: it's prolly a great job (screenshot are always cool, even if it looks just like the original. it's just that we want proof...with 'we' I mean the ppl not willing to go through all that pain installing the overhead)
cheerio.

Yes, I agree with you ro. It's so much work to install applications for a game. So I prefer the original to!

In Windows XP SP2 those things are installed standard.
I have made this game to learn myself Managed DirectX.
I am trying to make new graphics for the game.
Just look at the PNG files, the graphics can be made very nice.
Just like the music.
In the next, and I thing final version, I have made some new things like a menu and support for other "skins". Where a "skin" is total new graphics and music.
I know the things that has to be installed is now overkill, but over 6 months everybody has those things installed on their PC.
DirectX is going to be replaced by Managed DirectX.
With the Remake I have used the latest possiblities but not everybody has installed it.
So I am going to release Version 0.2. No new things will be done after that, only bug-fixing.
I am going to add some screenshot for you guys

It's not just the .net stuff.. it's the whole idea that you require all that for MOPI RANGER! Even if you want to do a nice souped-up version, it should run on a lousy 486 already. It all feels a bit like: "Hey, let's use this Cray 2 to play Pong" |

Henk, good job, but the reason I haven't tested it myself is because of all the things wolf_ and ro and Cosmic_Gate already stated: it's too much of a hassle to install this .net crap. Sure, it would be included in WXPSP2, but since I value the free space on my C:\ drive so much, I don't really care about a .NET framework.
On the other hand, I've installed a PHP-enabled webserver to teach myself PHP (and HTML, ), I managed to do so and now I'm happy. The only advantage of PHP over .NET is that PHP can be done 'remote' (find some webspace which allows you to use PHP and you're done) and .NET stuff has to be installed on the local computer. Which I dislike.
Anyway, great job (again ), but if I'm going to play that game, it should at first be .NET-free |

For me it took 4 downloads:
1) .net framework (installed it)
2) DirectX 9 (installed it too, it was PC in the office, I don't play games there usually)
(reboot goes here)
3) DirectX management (installed)
4) Mopi 0.1 itself (extracted into dir)
How good should be the game that requires so much work just to see it runs ?

I don't doubt the game's functionality or joy to play, however, I find four downloads and installs just too much. And I'm not the only one with that, I think
Okay, okay, I'm a lazy bum Is that what you wanted to hear? |

I think Henk made it quite clear he made this game in the first place to learn C# and Managed DirectX. The fact that people who install a similar environment can play his game is a side-effect.
So stop complaining already |

GuyveR800:
I agree - we should thank everybody who promotes M$ technologies and makes us ready for the next generation of .net applications - after installing all the above, we can run a lot of new apps we cannot before.
So, MSX continues to serve M$ as a whole and mr. Gates personally.

LOL
that's one way of looking at it
Personally I haven't installed all those things either... So I agree with you that it shouldn't be necessary, but one of Henk's goals was to learn this stuff...
Does C# support OpenGL? And if so, would it be possible to make a cross-platform (Windows and Linux) software with C# (.NET and Mono respectively) and OpenGL?

The funny thing is. That the whole .NET stuff worked in Linux before it worked in Windows.
I dont know the name of the compiler though.
C# and .NET does work for Linux as well.
The only problem is Managed DirectX. But there is nothing new. DirectX isnt part of Linux either.

Speak for yourself please, I *might* play it
[edit]And please mind your manners. They should really be reconsidered. As I (and other MRC folks) stated long ago, think before you act. If you've nothing useful to say, stay quiet. But this line has been quoted often in a bad way... So who am I to criticize you?[/edit] |
