Hallo,
Is it possible to have more than 128kb V-ram in a msx? Will it improve the performance of my machine?I can't find it on the pages van Hans Otten.
And i heard that the video memory of an old 286 can be used in a msx.

I'v seen an Nms8250 with 192Kb V-Ram... So I would say.. Yes.. It is possible.
It won't have a real big impact on the machine performance though cauz most software is developed for 128Kb VRam (or less)

dunno about that 286 stuff..
Even if it would be possible .. no software uses that extra ram .. so what would be the benefit?

The extra 64K VRAM cannot be used for display, but it can be used for graphic storage.
However, very few software exists that makes use of it. Maybe a sector copier here or there...

I had it in my former 8250. Some prgrams didn't run properly having 192k vram, so that's why it was switchable back to 128k with a switch on the front of my computer.
The only program I know that supports it, is fastcopy. So actually, it won't do you any good...

This is the first time I heard about having to switch it back though... I had 192kB VRAM in my ST and never had a single problem with it. Are you sure is was installed properly?

I'm sure about that. This hardware magician never made any error.
I don't know what software went bananas with 192k vram anymore... It's years ago...
