The Staff BGM from the ANT demo from Impact... that tune is one of the best msx-scene songs i've ever heard (if not THE best). |

| Might actually be some kinda challange, to remake some wellknown tune .. (r u reading this, SNOUT?).
It would however be the first challange not to be realised on a real msx ..
|
would that require msx made tunes? or just as long as it is arranged scene music in any form? |

well. to keep it on topic: only msx made tunes would be nice.

are we now referring to the source or the result ?

I was refering to the source.. So the original is made on msx,
and the end result (the remake) on any synth, cpu system or what ever the user owns...

Yeah, naturally .. that's why I didn't understand the fuzz anyway naturally I'm referring to scene music .. you know, tunes from picturedisks/diskmags, tunes from music disks, tunes from standalone demodisks, even from scene-games.
The point is: I find it an interesting experiment to remake something from someone from the scene, more closer to you compared to those 'anonymous' Japanese composers...
It's like the first edition of Big Brother... it wasn't interesting because of the actual TV program, but because of the national fuss it created.. think of all the shrinks having their theories about the whole thing. |

So was I, but I don't like another contest about 'who can create the best SD-Snatcher intro theme' orso... Mainly 'underground' demo stuff will do nicelly |

I think it's lame. It's a challenge to try and remake BGM's from commercial products, but to remake something an amateur componist has made... Sort of gives me the feeling you think you can do it better |

Well (again)... I've never seen any FM-PAC sound beating the 9th BGM of Fray If you don't know what I'm talking about, try to find Micro Music somewhere |

D-tail, that's because the scene never really used a good fm-pac app! There were some with the capabilities of all that Microcabin stuff, but they never were very popular.
The 6+drums+psg sound is quite common for Microcabin yes.. not for the scene, so it's a bit dangerous to say that Microcabin is 'just' better.. I'd say they've been using way better tools than we did.
Rieks: and what about 'amateur' commercial products, such as scene-games? Think ANMA, MSX-Engine etc.

Isn't that exactly the same when ppl remake 'commercial' game-music from Japan? |

Maybe that's what it feels like for you when you're doing it, wolf, but I could imagine people thinking "that's cute, but it surely can't beat the original, ever" |

I was already thinking about bringing in some nuance .. it's ofcourse about a personal point of view on the original music, and less about trying to outperform the original.
When I do a remake, my goal is to try to stick to the original atmosphere/purpose, while using modern technology. Or, to put it differently: trying to give an impression how the original could've sound anno 2004..
