Ok, here we go: if you are in critical care and your life is in immediate danger, would you RISC using R800-based computer to monitor your heart signals? I wouldn't I would only trust some crazy military-grade equipment, programmed entirely in ADA.

Thus R800 is not RISC

CISC. Complex Instruction Set Computer, which can perform several low-level operation.
RISC. Reduced Instruction Set Computer, designed to recognize only a small number of commands in order to accelerate processing speed.

I had a heart operation in 2002, I went into the operating room, the room was full of computers, mainly proprietry systems.

There was one PC there, the surgeon was sitting at it, I asked "Are you using Microsoft Software?" His reply was "No! We are using IBM OS/2 with crash protection"

I think youll find most systems that are life critical/dependant are mainly propriety, i.e. programmed just to do that one jopb - eg an EGC machine

Tough luck, as the R800 was actually used in medical equipment!
MSX definitely wasn't its only application.

The wikipedia page about R800 now states the R800 is based on the Z800. AFAIK, this is very unlikely. The Z800 was meant to be a 16 bit cpu, and could address more memory. The R800 and Z800 are both based on the Z80 architecture, but have little to do with eachother.
Does anyone have more information on this?

That's the bad thing about wiki... I personally liked the very first page a whole lot better, but then that's just me...
