| HansO & Jazzy, thank you a lot !

I'm glad I could do something back. You've been a great help for me a couple of years ago when I received my first Russian MSX. |

Both manuals are online now.
Rather large files.
You can find the files at http://www.hansotten.com - Whats new and on the MSX hardware info pages. |

Wow... it has more info than I thought.
BTW, the Net Basic document I am finishing the translation of is in fact the part of the manual you scanned.
Scanning hundreds of pages ... you are a hero, HansO.
I thank you thousand times.

Congratulations! Is there a way of expanding YIS-805/YIS-503 to more that 128k? |

... and after reading the Net manual I discovered that level of English in the english part of the manual is far from perfect.
Russian part of the manual is not always undestandable as well, has misprints etc.
It will take more time than I planned to fix all those inconsistencies in Ru->En translation of Net Basic manual, but in the end it should be OK.
Most MSX-DOS NetBIOS commands have their analogs in Net Basic or NetBIOS for CP/M, so this part will be much easier to translate once Net Basic manual will be finished.

There is place for four more 464 chips (extra 128KBytes of RAM) and related 4 small decoupling capacitors and one fat capacitor. This part of the board looks same as part with existing 4 x 464 chips. I don't plan to upgrade my machine, since it could break compatibility.
I found two defects in my YIS805:
1) Drive A: doesn't work. Drive B: works fine. I switched ID jumpers on floppy drives, so now bottom drive is A: and top is B:. Funny enough if top drive is connected with drive DS1 (as opposed to DS0), it's ignored by firmware, i.e. "files b:" doesn't even try to access it. That means something is seriously wrong with it...
2) If I do "call paint", computer simply hangs. Looks like ROM chip with paint forgot some of its bytes This happens to old computers sometimes... I'll have to dump the rom and see if it's different from publicly available dumps.
Other then that, all works great. I'm really glad. I have hard time using "JCUKEN" keyboard layout as opposed to "QWERTY", but hey, I'm in no hurry...
Did anyone ever replaced drive in YIS-805 with modern PC 3.5" drive? What would be the steps? |

Oh, I forgot to add some weird facts:
1) YIS-805 PSU is universal. It works fine with 50/60Hz input and anything between 100 and 230V. That makes my life a lot easier, since I don't have to use step-up transformer (I have to use it with NMS-8255).
2) Video output is SECAM-60!!! Why do I think this? Because PAL and NTSC both give proper colors on my TV, but PAL is out of sync, so I see it floating up fast. Then I hooked up YIS-805 to TV, I got stable picture (this 60Hz), but the colorts are all wrong! It reminds me colors I had back then I tried to hook up PAL VCR to SECAM color TV back in 80-s.
Can anyone confirm or prove me wrong on this?

Hehe, I already want the second one, so I can get:
1) YIS-805 with both original floppy drives working, a good Yamaha Painter rom and no mods period. As original as it gets. 100% compatibility with wicked russian software, that is geared for russian Yamaha exlusivly and don't work on any other MSX2 computers;
2) YIS with:
- 2 modern floppy drives and proper plastic molding / paint job, so it looks decent;
- all ROMs replaced with modern EPROMs in good quality sockets;
- internal memory upgrade to 1MB SIMM module or more, with a switch to ground extra address lines and get 128K only, if necessary (compatibility)
- V9958 + F4 register upgrade
- firmware updated to MSX2+ level to support 9958, but in such way that it still works fine with most russian software (TOR, DBG, ND, games)
- Super Turbo mod (7Mhz) on another switch
- built-in FMPAC chip (like in most MSX2+)
I would switch one of the computers in pupil mode and network them together

Heh, if you were reading Net manual ... :-)
Well, before running Painter you have to disable networking with CALL NETEND
Good luck !

... and also don't use component output - it's weird and seems to work with green monitors only. I tried it on 5 various TVs and had no luck.
Use RGB output - either connect it to RGB monitor or make RGB-to-SCART cable and plug it into TV.

I do, I use it with XRGB2+ and the cable that I built a few weeks ago. Works like a charm on a VGA monitor Funny enough, I think original EIZO color monitor was connected to this weird composite out, not the RGB. May be I'm wrong.
I got tonns of junk from the keyboard. I guess a lot of people had their lunches and dinners over it. The keyboard is just gorgeous. So much better then keyboard from NMS-8250/55/80. It is like Rolls-Royce car compared to a Fiat |

You are. I remember myself connecting 2 monitors at the same time - color one to RGB and green monitor to the composite.
BTW, does Painter run now ? Remember my words - if something goes wrong, just switch off the network :-) I don't know exactly why it makes problems, but according to the manual it does some hardware interrupts all the time.
You can feel it - MSX runs faster with network disabled.
Just press CTRL-G continuously with network enabled and disabled and you will hear the difference !
