Not bad, not bad !
(I already have 5 or 6 variants of this intro, BTW).

Was it already announced somewhere ?
If not, I think we should submit a newspost about it, and for Meits' song as well.

I aim to collect all remakes, can you help me with this task ?

Well here's a little something to keep you happy, and as sneak preview on stuff I am err..was...doing...the Theme of Tara (sneaking theme) from the first Metal Gear but in Harry-Gregson Williams style to fit the MGS series: *click*

Oh and you can find my SD-Snatcher arrangements at http://junkerhq.net/SMA/

> Theme of Tara

Seems to me like a disco theme, but I cannot dance to it

> my SD-Snatcher arrangements

Already found them, TriumphalArchSAV and CaseClosed are my favorites.

BTW, which software helps you to make the arrangement ?
If I understand correctly, first of all you retrieve the notes of the original tune, either aurally or using midi capabilities of the MSX emulator. But I have no idea about what happens afterwards.
All I can think of is applying various instruments and using musical keyboard to add variations.

Well, most stuff on http://www.jorito.net/files/msxmp3/ was made with Cakewalk Sonar and my synthesizers. Retrieving the note is done mostly by ear (with some nice 'tricks', like writing each separate channel to a wav file, and slowing down that file to make note retrieval easier).

After that, you've got to get creative and add extra stuff to the basic song you have now. Pick some style you want to use, choose some cool instruments to go along with it. Arrange it, mix it, polish it, rearrange again, etc. A good idea is also to have an idea of what kind of song you want to make, and what style you want to use beforehand.

To give you an idea: http://www.jorito.net/files/msxmp3/goonies/cave2.ogg is a nice creative mix between the original MSX game song and a theme from the movie. Oh, and along with some custom additions at the end

I never used the MIDI capabilities of an emulator...didn't even know they had any. I just 'hear' the notes and play along on the keyboard. Sometimes I use the method Jorito describes of recording the seperate channels into seperate WAV files (Imagine II has that option, and so does KSS).

Once i know how to play a song, I have to come up with an idea of what type of arrangement I want, and which instruments give it the right mood...Jazzy instruments in Case Closed for example, or orchestral sounds to get the movie soundtrack feel of Theme of Tara...the legato lead in Triumphal Arch adds to the sense of speed in the song...in general, making decent arrangements is not about finding out the notes and applying instruments to them, it's about making music based on a blueprint.

Oh and I use the following stuff:
Roland Juno-60 Analogue Synthesizer
Roland XP-50 Synthesizer
Kawai K1r Synthesizer
Reason Softsynth
Cakewalk Sonar MIDI sequencer
Adobe Audtion recording studio
Izotope Ozone mastering plugin (for audition)

MrRudi, just as I thought professional musician uses ears, hands and creativity to perform his work.
Mastering this art takes a lot of years, I suppose.

Jorito, I am totally in love with Quarth-Italo from your site !

Blame Bart Roymans (Low_profile here) for that song, he did a good job with it

Actually he prefers Roijmans these days....

Something about a forefather screwing up the official family name. Or something. I think. Oh I don't know. I got nothing.

something like that... My passport says Roijmans, so that must be the official one (i'm the only one of about 70+ relatives that actually writes his lastname correctly now

Hey cax, if you're still curious about how creating an arrangement goes, you can check out http://www.jorito.net/files/msxmp3/menuvars/ . There you can find some variations (most bad ) of the F-1 Spirit menu tune.

Oh, and a good example of what a basic version of a song sounds like, with all the exact notes retrieved is this song: http://www.jorito.net/files/msxmp3/f1spirit/f3000.ogg . That one is a very basic version of the F3000 F-1 Spirit tune, with a direct translation of the notes from KSS (by ear), and some very quick instrument selections that more or less work. The only fancy part in this song is the delay effect on the arpeggio

Heh, it seems that in 5 and 6 you've solved most problems like overlapping legatto in fast fragments

This tune is quite a different one than the one already done...
The notes are all done, no problemo...
Have to poke some instruments now...

MeitsNearDark, have you lost interest for Mohenjo Daro remix ?
I don't want to disturb you, just say yes if you feel so.
