well, it's an MSX I bought from you a year ago or so at Tilburg... chances are it is already done, because it also had an fmpac fix, more mem, a 7mh switch and it was modded to 2+.
I can have a look at it, but I guess this would involve soldering, which I'm really terrible at. :/

At least my SVI-728 and all other Spectravideo machines have very bad sound. PSG is way too loud and Konami's SCC soundchip can't be heard at all. Everytime i play something with my machine i must first remember to put down the volume on my TV if i don't want to blow off all the windows in my house.

I have been told that this happens because Spectravideo machines are very cheaply made in Hong Kong and they tried to save money by using the same components everywhere whether they are supposed to be used or not.

It's quite funny that SVI machines were advertised at least here in Finland with a "quality from the U.S"-slogan.

Some Konami games are reported not to work at all on SVI, but i am yet to try this out as i don't have any SCC/Mega ROM games yet. At least Knightmare runs without trouble.

Yippie, I've received my NMS8250 today! Finally I've got a working MSX2 again
I was performing maintenance work on it, and noticed, that it's not a 'ordinary' MSX2. There's a mem-counter in the BIOS, and resistors R428 & R429 have been replaced by 100uF elcos.

Noticed the PSG volume is very low, when a SCC-cart is plugged in. bas, you said this before:

Will this solve the mixing problem?

No, this is only when the PSG is very strange

the mixing problem you can change on the following way:

You need a variable resistor of 10K.

You have to cut in the cartridge slot flatcable.
You have to place it in the cable wire 49.

Sousuke, who has sold you this computer?

I bought it in eBay. The seller's name is Frank Schroeder. (I live in Germany)
But these infos could give hints to its real origin:
1. On the floppy (casing) there's a Club-Westfriesland-label.
2. And guess what? At the rear-side another label with "www.bas-ditta.info" on it

I've checked the mainboard. R 174 (If I'm not mistaken) has been exchanged. Using a lower resistor results in a higher PSG volume. Is there a default value for that resistor?

it is not so long time ago that I sold the computer to Frank Schroeder

You also have a fast diskrom and new diodes in the power supply

may I ask you what you have paid for it?

Colorcode of that resistor: orange, white, brown, gold. 390 Ohm? Is that ok?

bas: Is this a matter of the right balancing on the board, or should I build in a variable resistor in wire 49 of cartridge-flatcable?

If my memory is not mistaken its a 2K2 resistor that will do the trick.

Of course you can
I paid about 40 Euros and shipping 12 Euro. Guess he sold his collection? There were some disks included, 2 joysticks, RGB-cable, tape-cable, printer-cable.
Fast-DiskROM v1.08, diodes should also be new (at least, they are different from my old damaged NMS8250).

shaiwa

that is the the exact resistor, but with a variable one you can change the sound to your own wishes. not every fm-pac has the same sound. The Korean FM-chip is very bad.

Tää on helppo korjata... Replace resistor R53 (4.7KOhm) with 150KOhm resistor and this problem is gone. In SVI-738 the resistor is R2
