Hi all!

When I recently found this site and some emulators like FMSX and NLMSX, I spend hours reading, laughing, downloading demo's and playing the old games. It gave me very nostalgic feeling, which I really liked
It's very nice what all of you have done here, nice to see the MSX community is still so much alive.

I saw on the boards that some of you even remember me and of course the Amiga loving elephant I made a lot of demo's for, one of the webmasters even took his name
Since some of you asked what happened to me after my MSX days, I though it would be nice to tell a bit about myself.

I bought my first MSX around 1986 and I think I played all games available. First game I played was konami's "the goonies". Best and one of the last ones I played on an MSX was Konami's SD Snatcher.
Still like to game these days, my next one will be Everquest2. I even work at a game company, as a game software engineer. I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Gaming and programming where 2 of my great hobbies on the msx, 3rd was computer graphics. Loved to invent new techniques and fool around with cartoons.

A mutual friend of us introduced me to Koert van Mensvoort who was active on MSX too. Together with him and Marcel Bergman we started BCF.
Since this mutual friend of us was an Amiga user and used every occasion to tell us how good it was, we developed a great antipathy for that system. Koert invented a little elephant with red sunglasses, with which I started to make demo's. He didn't like amiga's and his name was Snout
After a while Marcel dropped out of BCF and Dennis Lodewijks(creator of the largests Vangelis site worldwide) joined, who made most of the lovely Snout tunes. After him Ruud van de Moosdijk joined, he made a Snout demo too, the Christmas demo.
I made 6 snout demo's, one for each diskstation, I loved creating them very much
Koert is still making Snout demo's sometimes. I'm sure you all know his site www.snout.com and www.snout.nl.

Other things I made for BCF: the Jean Michel Jarre demo, together with Dennis Lodewijks. Satan Demo. Sigma Power demo. Some of the Intro screens and menus and a lot more.

Ok, that’s all for now, but be sure to read more from me from now on!

Regards,
Sander Strootman

Isn't snout a character from Jack The Nipper originally?

Inventing is a big word indeed....

I meant: Rip a character out of Jack the Nipper. Enhance it a bit. Give it some color and a name.
Snoutdemo 1 was about Snout traveling trough other games like Athletic Lands. A lot of graphics from other games in that demo.
Silly thing is that after that demo most BCF stuff is original, as were all other characters in later Snout demo's, but we had to stick to Snout. Fans would kill us if we took another character for him

The name was the most difficult one. We couldn't make one up, untill we took a dictionary and looked up the English word for the Dutch word "snuit". We felt in love with that immediately hehe

Yo Sander! Cool to have you around here, dude! Too bad I missed that short film that was broadcast on TV recently, I expect there'd be quite some 'familiar humor' in it .

About a new Snout demo... is there something we (the MRC forum visitors) could do to 'make it happen'? I'd really love to see some new Snout material on MSX, either Dutch or English...

Amazingly, nobody has mentioned the "Amazing Heads" yet.

Indeed, I forget that one
Although Koert made the largest part of it. I only did the end, Koert the main part.

Ok questiontime!
I'm currently playing with NLMSX and tried all the old Konami roms, very nice.
I wanted to try the BCF diskstations too, but NLMSX expects a diskimage file. I only have the LZH files from this site which seems to be some kind of archive.
Can I convert these types or is there another (easier?) way to watch them on my PC?

A) Extract them with e.g. WinRAR
B) Insert the files into a DSK image with DSKExplorer, Winimage or writedsk. Warning: DSKExplorer needs the archive bit to be set in order to work correctly (ATTRIB +A)

Plan B - Wait until we offer DSK files for download as well

Perhaps you could extract the LHZ into a directory. AFAIK, BlueMSX supports directory-as-dsk.
