I finally figured out why some here think it is a Korean one... The box looks small when u compare it with the image on the T-shirt. Ever thought of the possibility that the image on the T-shirt is bigger than the Japanese version?

Indeed, the Korean version has a much smaller box. I had no doubt this is the japanese version.

OK.. Check below. This picture was taken more than one year ago for other purpose but you can compare the case size between them.
Compare Japanese Metal Gear 1 & 2 and Korean Version Metal Gear 2.
As a bonus, there is a boxed Deluxe Box from Zemina (a kind of ram card for loading mega rom games)
